I just got back from the solo and ensemble festival. Basically, this is where you sing in front of a judge and they tell you how bad you are and give you a score (1-5, 1 being the best) and give you some "constructive criticism" and if you get a 1, you can move onto states. Oh, and you can use the scores for scholarships and college and stuff. I was nervous as crap (until I got in there, the guy was nice) but anyway, I GOT A 1!!!!! yippee! that's a load off. I no longer have to eat sleep and breathe Che Fiero Costume. anyway, I wanted to brag to someone and massassi seemed like the best place to do it! thanks!

Good job. around where i live they dont have anything like that, but there is a sort of all-state band. i was going to try out but i was sick the day of the auditions and they only have one day . Oh, well. Congrats on your success.

I missed out a NYSSMA band festival this autumn because my mouth got busted, and I couldn't play my Bass clarinet or clarinet for about 2 weeks. Lost a small chunk of money, too. But I'll be performing for a similar type thing, the NYSSMA solo festival, but it's more like a grade you'd get on a test. Last year at a Level V I got a 97. Hoping to do jsut as well this year with a level VI, which is as high as it goes. It's a tricky piece, but I'm pretty good at figuring things out quickly, due to the amoutn of time I spend writing and playing new music. Just have an ear for it.

Omicron88: yeah, I sing...and I got on my comment sheet "fully supported, open/warm tone, great intonation, excellent technique, very good interpretation, and excellent performance" the only bad comment was that I should have rolled my r's and my "oo" was too closed in the word "crudele"

But no, no American Idol in my future.
