The Best Finale? (General spoilers within...)
2004-03-05, 8:52 AM #1
I just completed FF10 and it got me thinking - what is the best game ending? I have a fair few, but I want to see what you guys think, with reasons if possible.

In no particular order:
-- FF10 - Kicka**e ending. Cool music to go with it.
-- FF7 - The final success and no more Meteor...
-- Jedi Knight - Wow. Just... wow.
-- Deus Ex, Option 1 - Also just wow.

Any contributions?

-- C&C - When you see Kane vs. Ion Cannon...
-- Half Life, etc. - Ties up the story, don't you think, Missssster Freeman?

FFX's ending was the only thing the storyline even had going for it, yet they managed to ruin even that at the very end. I have almost zero trust in Square/Enix now.

- End of Silent Hill 2 (one of the most depressing/intelligent endings in...anything).
- End of Max Payne 2 (just like a movie).
- End of Call of Duty (mainly because of the music and cheering as you put the flag up).

For me, the best game ending ever is Street Fighter Alpha 2 .

A different ending for each character, and the endings had plot, meaning, and were far from pointless.

I don't know, when I got to thinking about it, there aren't too many great game ending out there. Most kind of leave you flat.

Had KOTOR had decent endings, it would have been my fav. hands down, but they dropped the ball too.

Isn't it amazing how many great games you play, only to get ripped off in the end?

"Neverwinter Nights" Syndrome, right there.

CoD's ending was pretty good...I liked Throne of Bhaal's ending as well, but I don't think I'd say it was the best ever. I'm hesitant to say Metal Gear Solid, since I seem to have mentioned it in every recent games thread...

Oh well, Metal Gear Solid [http://forums.massassi.net/html/redface.gif]

The end of Final Fantasy VIII left me in tears. Does that count for anything?

Oh yes, Mafia. That had an EXCELLENT ending. Heheh, (if you've played it you know what I mean...)
"Mr. Salieri sends his regards."
Actually, now that I think about it, I had tears in my eyes at the end of Mafia. Mainly because I loved it so much.

Definately. MoH: AA had one one the biggest let-down endings I've ever seen. You basically jump in the train, a marine says one line of cheesy dialogue, and it's over.

Personally, I thought Jedi Knight's ending was pretty wimpy ... as the lightside that is.

Darkside on the other hand ... well let's just say that rocked... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

That's the ending of Episode 2, not the final ending. The final ending was with him screwing a girl (of course you don't see it but you can hear it pretty well.)

As for game endings I've seen, can't think of too many that stick out in my head. I think Jedi Knight's ending as the Darkside was pretty good, in a disturbing way. No One Lives Forever had a funny ending with Cate chasing Bruno and cursing him out and the brief scene with Dimitri seeing his "real" boss, hehe. For a nice sweet ending, I thought Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was a good ending.

For some endings that left me with "WTF?" feeling, those would have to be Half-Life and Monkey Island 2. I was so confused when I first saw those.

Liked Legacy of Time's ending a bit, what with Arthur singing and everything.

Nah, though in the expansion, your predator does get facehugged in the end, turning into your predalien in the expansion. Nope, you just kick butt and save the day. The predator gets to take on the general too. I just like how all the endings tie in together, and even the expansion ties in back with the original.
