10 Best Movie Gunfights
2004-03-06, 1:45 PM #1
I'll start it (in no particular order):
1) Scarface
2) The Untouchables
3) Gunfight at the OK Corral

EDIT: This isn't really the ten best, just some examples of the best shootouts.

I thought the gun fight at the end of "Open Range" was pretty damn cool. Not as intense as the others, but was still awesome.

Yeah that was a pretty nice gun fight. Especially when Kostner's character just walked up and shot the guy.

the gunfight at the end of Equilibrium beats any of the crap from the matrix movies... bullet time does not make a good gunfight people

Wanna see where the Wachowski brothers got their inspiration? Rent out Hard Boiled. You have not seen a gun fight until you've seen Chow Yun Fat directed by John Woo in Hard Boiled.

The Killer is really good too. Seriously, rent out some Hong Kong cinema if you want to see some amazing gun fights.

Equilibrium had an awesome gun fight at the end. The sad part is, if Hollywood did a real 10 list, they'd choose only movies we knew. Thing about Equilibrium was at the fight, they didn't do some huge b.s. back flips holding in the air for 5 seconds.

I noticed you chose gun fight instead of shootout so I'd either have to say "Enemy at the Gates" (sniper vs. sniper how can you go wrong) or the last battle during "Saving Private Ryan" (War is just one big gunfight anyway)

I love the opening scene of Desperado...

In fact, most of the gunfights in both Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico were really enterteaining.

Yeah, most people are put off by the title. Maybe if they knew Quentin Tarantino wrote it, they'd be more inclined...

I mean, it has three awesome fight scenes: Clarence vs. Drexl Spivey, Alabama vs. mobster, then the classic everyone vs. everyone shootout at the end. By far one of my favorite movies. The 2-disc uncut DVD's definitely worth it.

Good Grief, how could I forget The Man With No Name trilogy, particularly The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. That movie was filled with super gun fights!

That was a rip off of the last scene in Unforgiven when Clint Eastwood killed like 20 men in two minutes.

I'm surprised no one has said anything about The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. The actual gunfight is just 2 shots or so, but the tension and stuff leading up to it and the music is so cool.

How about the end of L.A. Confidential?

Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe in a boarded-up run down Motel, surrounded by a dozen or so mobsters and corrupt cops.

Veery intense, veeery good sound.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

I saw the church shootout of The Killer on a top 10 fights or something like that on USA. I was very impressed. My first thoughts at the time were "this is the matrix 20-30 years before the matrix." AWESOME shootout.

Desperado's shootout is also awesome. I love Banderas on the bar, walking and shooting in front and behind his back. Also when he's doing the bit where he shoots when he kinda throws the guns forward, that was cool.

Brian I definatly agree with you on Heat, I love that scene after they rob the bank.

My favorite is Willem Defoe's final rush in Platoon, hes like running straight past a wall of VC and taking them all out with his Car-15. That movie was great...
