Overclocking my TNT2

TNT2 M64
Core: 125 MHz
Memory: 150 MHz
----------------

I'm trying to get UT2003 to go past 320x240 with min. details... how much faster do you think this thing can go without catching on fire? There are no heatsinks on the memory right now.

oclock it would barely do anything to it, it's pipelines are so small.

Overclocking a TNT2 is like putting better tires on a honda in preparation for a flight across the atlantic. It's not going to do a damn bit of good.

you'd have to overclock it ALOT to do that... just get some money together and get a better video card...

Well I will be getting a Geforce FX 6xxx when it comes out... I just want to play around with the thing without killing it.

to get a TNT2 to run UT2k3 at say... 640x480 on lowest settings at a playable framerate you would have to overclock it to the point of melting most likely

I can play Quake III with max settings on 640x480 with very playable fps.

I can actually play ut2003 with okey fps on 640x480, but it's pretty choppy.

320x240 is okey, but they only problem is that I have a lot of trouble finding my way around.

(All I see is this big mish mash of pixels)

Well I've been trying some underclocking, and as it turns out, performance decreased. Then the X server froze. Ah well.

For Nvidia based cards, I use NVclock. I'm not sure what to use for ATI cards.

anyway if you can handle 640x480 with it choppy sometimes you could try tweaking the advanced settings... bring the console down and type preferences

You guys are right... after some overclocking in UT2003 and Quake III, I can see no difference after adding 10 MHz to core and memory speeds. I know that's not very much, but I don't want to go any higher without heat moniters or memory heatsinks... lol.

I felt just the temperature of the memory of my TNT2... they were warm, but not nearly as the memory on my Radeon 9800 Pro got. Is this right? Maybe I'll try pushing it harder...

I overclocked my Geforce 3ti200 to 265mhz/500mhz with stock cooling and no ramsinks... it's not worth much, so while I understand it'll probably die oneday, with a 100MHz overclock on the Ram and 95MHz on the core, I'm enjoying some free performance.

So... do the same with the TNT2... go nuts, what do you have to loose? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
