This is a question that's applicable to this forum as well as the Music forum...

Anyway for this English project I've got to get some Song Lyrics (preferably @ 20) and they need to be wholesome (something remotely objectionable is probably going to get me marked down). I'm looking for some good classic songs, but they have to have to be lyrics (I can't print the actual sheet music) so just classical music is out.

Currently I've got things like "You'll Be In My Heart" (Phil Collins) and "Can't Buy Me Love" (McCartney/Lennon), and "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" (you know the song from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid).

Names of songwriters/and or movie soundtracks could be helpful. If you have links, that's even better. All I have to do at the moment is copy and paste.

Thanks! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Umm...no. Sorry, can't think of any.

Unless...what's the definition of wholesome? Do they have to have no objectionable content, or do they have to actually be actively promoting a wholesome activity?

Sorry, I meant more or less any subject matter so long as:

1) no swearing
2) no explicit references to sex
3 something else I've proably forgotten

At the same time I don't want "Hey kids, let's sing a happy song!" kind of stuff. Something with a bit of substance, maybe even, dare I say it, thought-provocative and poignant?

Yeah, well hope that clarifies a bit. Thanks!

Skynyrd-Free Bird
Metallica-The Unforgiven
CCR-Fortunate Son
Led Zeppelin-Stairway to Heaven
Led Zeppelin-The Battle of Evermore

Don't have time to look for the lyrics right now, but they should be relatively easy to find.

Thanks SAJN, but preferably not tons of love songs, I've already got a few and if I turn in to many my teacher's probably going to think I'm pretty strange seeing as I'm male (not trying to be stereotypical).

As for Led Zeppelin and Metallica, I think I'd rather steer away from them, I've just heard that some of their songs are open to debate. If it would help, I guess I should mention I go to a Christian school. That doesn't mean all the songs have to be Christian, but it would be nice if some of them were. Currently I have six songs total.

Keep it coming though guys, and thanks for the help thus far.

Eureka! (sp?) That is exactly the type of song I'm looking for. As for the expletives, I odn't know what my teacher would think because I consider them quite appropriate in the context. Anyway, that is a good guideline. Just some good old classic songs (like from 60's movies, the Beetles, songs from books such as Les Miserables, amything along those sort of lines). Thanks Janitor Bob!

You might like "What have I done", also from the Les Miz album.

It's the same music as "Javert's Suicide" but with different lyrics, contrasting two different characters beautifully.

classicaly traditional political songs that any English teachers worth their salt should recognize:
Billy Joel - Goodnight Saigon (Vietnam)
Randy Newman - Political Science (Cold War era Megalomanic manifest destiny / political paranoia)

If you want diverse, gloomy, macabre, yet witty then try some Tom Waits. Especially of the following albums: Bone Machine, Alice, Blood Money. Try these 1 2 3 4 5

If you want to be original, try and see his reaction to Screamin' Jay Hawkins - Constipation Blues (consists mostly of Jay going HnnNNNN-nNNnG! HRR-uh- HnnnnNG! over a blues backing) [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif] Great stuff.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

What is love is done by Hadaway... that will help...

Dave Matthews Band - Tripping Billies (snicker... don't use that)

Dave Matthews Band - Best of What's Around (do use that, it's a great song and the lyrics are great)

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

Beatles - Blackbird

Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven

R.E.M. - The End of the World As We Know It (really long, and lots of good content)

Billy Joel - We Didn't Start The Fire (crams 40 years of history into a radio-ready song length)

Now I listen to every type of music and I can't think of any song that fits that critrea! lol. But seriously how explict is explict? Is "Milkshake" explict? Would "Puff the Magic Dragon" be suitable? Do soft 'swear' words like damn, hell, *** and crap count as swearing (whats the betting massassi will censor these words?)?

I'd say just about anything By Silverchair... at least from the Neon Ballroom album...

You'll be able to find lyrics to them all right there...

Might I recommend Spawn Again, Miss You Love, and Anthem for the Year 2000....

Yeah, you'd probably want to steer clear of most Metallica then, but I would still strongly recomend "The Unforgiven", and possibly also "One". Another suggestion is Primus. Again, you probably wouldn't want to use some of their stuff, but I think "Too Many Puppies" and "Mr. Knowitall" would be pretty good for an assignment like this.

A-more a-like:
"Sounds of Silence"- Simon and Garfunkel.
"Dangling Conversation"- Simon and Garfunkel.
"Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall"- Simon and Garfunkel.

Paul Simon= Lyrical Genius. His music is poetry with a tune set behind it. You can either listen to it casually, and simply let the gentle music flow over you. Or listen to it intently, as a philosopher, analyzing the lyrics and the message behind them. It's one or another. There's no middle ground.

Wow, thanks a ton guys, I wasn't expecting anywhere near this many responses. I'm only about half way through the list however. My computer refuses to let me paste it into word, claiming I'm too low on memory.

So I go to My Computer, check out system resources, and they're 58%. Since that's pretty bad, I tried deleting unused programs, taking the cd out of the drive, closing as many windows as possible, clearing temp files and temp internet files, emptying my recycle bin, and it doesn't change a bit. I guess I could degrag the drive, but that's going to take ages(saying that I am going to be calling it a night soon).

Any ideas how I could free up some memory?

Look at your taskbar, if there are a lot of icons. Go Start > Run > then type msconfig. Now click the startup tab and uncheck anything you don't think you'll need. A lot of programs start services that you'll never use and just sit there idling on your computer using up precious resources. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
