Fine, explain it to me.

IN order to spare this thread, Im posting this here.

Jon`C, Jaiph, Someone, please explain to me where the hell my supposed "existing predisposition" was declared. Id really appreciate it. Its starting to bug me.

I have no idea about any of that since I was not there at the time. I have spoken with a few of the ops over the years about newbie hazing since I really dislike the practice. Thankfully I haven't had to have any of those little 'talks' in a fair while now.

I do recall once in the past when someone from Massassi was kick/banned when they joined. That was Ubuu a year or two ago when he was getting banned constantly from #massassi for his behaviour. He seems a lot more settled now so I personally wouldn't take that action again.

The bigger question is: GBK, really, does it even matter?

I'm sure we all have far more important things to worry about...

How about you email him so we don't have to see your petty squabbling?

In fact, why are you complaining on Massassi's forum at all, let alone a thread about Madaventor? If you have a problem with an individual, email him, and if you have a problem with the group, post on their forum.

No war, Charoziak. At least, it better not head that way since I'm sick to death of all kinds of conflict...here, the cantina, wherever.

If I posted some place and got yelled at, I wouldn't want to post there anymore, but that's just me.

Fine. I'll just tell you- When we found out you hated toast (even Cinnamon Toast!) we collectively decided that, because of your dislike for such a brilliant dish, we loathed your existence.

All communities can and do share certain disturbing similarities to clubs formed by eight-year-olds with poor self-esteem. The Cantina or the forum that shall not be named deliberately appeal to those instincts by limiting involvement to certain ingroups. It's childish, but so are people.

I wouldn't take it personally: just forget it and move on or make the effort to fit yourself to an acceptable mold.

I'm not sure when this was supposed to have happened (it's been a quiet 6 months so if it was recently...ugh), but given your popularity I'd guess that an op let his personal feelings drive his actions.

It works both ways. The -ians think the -ites hate them all, and thus the -ites assume the -ians hate them all because of it. Can't we all just hug and be friends?

It was last November.

Ironically enough, the threads that contained my "warm welcome" still existed, until about an hour ago. I posted a link to them in #massassi, which caused them to majically disappear. Apparently someone would rather them not be seen.

At this point, I really dont give a **** about the BCF. I just want to know why I was given such a "warm welcome".

...over a year ago? Why is this suddenly an issue now? Look as I said I've dealt with a couple of ops about this kind of thing and at least one has since left because of it. What #massassi has never had issues with ops misusing power? We've all witnessed the odd occassion there, so why does the Cantina get to be painted as the den of all evil?

Jaiph: It's not a generalization. It's the natural function of limited admission. I mean, it's not the driving force behind either the Cantina or the Forum of Ego, but it's still a significant portion of their appeal.

Baby-eater.

Its not really an issue, I just want an explination.

I am calling noone evil, nor pointing any fingers (Well, Ill point on at Void ZoSo, he gave me the "warm welcome")

I just want someone to explain to me why the hell I was so coldly rejected.

I'm positively loathed by the Cantina, I'm just too stupid to leave. Ignorance is bliss.

The Cantina is known for not being friendly to newbies. You should know the risks before you try to get in.
2003-12-10, 3:26 PM #26
GBK...I think many have had that "warm welcome", (I know I have, right Jeff [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]). As Jeff said..its not their general way of dealing with things, and he has dealt with the issue. Move on.

Jedi Legend - The cantina has a few patrons who are known for not being nice to newbies. Don't generalize, or I might say something silly like "#massassi is known for being full of stupid people" just because the combined IQ of a few of it's patrons can be counted on one hand. I have no idea what threads you were talking about. Nobody has mentioned deleting any threads in the Cantina, and several -ites have professed to have no idea what you were talking about.

I remember you making a few sporadic posts on the JL forums. Juz has been logging the Cantina since well before last November, and nobody with the nick *GBK* has chatted in the Cantina during that period.

I hate to say it, but... seriously... given how much you and others have tried to scapegoat/badmouth the Cantina in the past, I wouldn't put it past you to be trying to exaggerate the whole thing just to make an impact. The Cantina isn't half as closed as people claim it is and you can usually get the server address by just asking someone. Unless you act like a dumb*** you'll probably be allowed to stick around for a while.

For the record, we have a grand total of 2 people on our permaban list. That's it. Yeah, we're such an exclusive club right?

I wasn't really intending to generalize (but I did anyway, oops). I just know of someone- who I will leave unnamed- who had a 'bad' experience. I don't think the cantina is a bad place, and I certainly don't think the people are bad there. I just think that if you want to be a new member there, you shouldn't be surprised when some people treat you poorly.
2003-12-10, 3:41 PM #33
Personally I've just hated conflict in general and especially the impression the #CC and Massassi are always at odds. Both groups are made up of individuals with their own minds, it's far from one collective against another.

I have also hated newbie hazing in all forms. I started the cantina back in 1997 to meet new people and have fun, not create some kind of exclusive club which is why I get the ****s with anyone trying to create that impression....and really, if someone is giving S51 grief after all this time I'm gonna be really pissed off.

Sorry...venting...breathe

ok, i've just been praising massassi for being a good community especially in how well we handle tragic events like death of members...
and now i read this:
a moderator is acting like a newbie.

sorry GBK, I usually agree with you on what you post but this is just very dumb.
I also don't usually get upset by this kind of thing because I can just say "oh it's some dumb 12 year old" but you're a Moderator!
what kind of example for the other members is this?
I wan't on BCF or Cantina or whatever it's called when this junk happened... i don't even know who classifies as an -ite opposed to an -ian and i don't care...
but getting this upset over being flamed on a forum is just dumb.

[end rant]
