That is the most incredibly cool thing I have seen for months. The thing makes 70 pounds feel like 5 pounds? Very cool.

Technically 170 lbs since the legs themselves weigh 100, plus the 70 on the back. Sounds like Iron Man. Now, what if you kicked something?

I don't think it would add any extra oomph to a kick, since it probably is only designed for walking movement.

What I wonder though is what if they give out while walking, or if someone is captured. The enemy has the secrets to building one then.

buhahahahaha! That would not help on the frontlines. Not only does that present a bigger target, but it would restrict mobility as well.

It specifically states that it's both for Marching and Hauling. No where does it says it's meant for fighting in.

So when do we start building terminators and robocops to duke it out in an action packed video-game-like setting?

That's true but the fight can be anywhere. It's a good idea but if you're a soldier, you're hauling your gear almost all the time. So if you go out on patrol and find an enemy or you are attacked, you can't exactly say "oh.. time out guys I gotta take my robot legs off"

It's still a really good idea for OTHER things but maybe not the army. Soldiers need their mobility

Yes, but vehicles can't always get in behind the front lines, or travel through hostile/vehicle unfriendly territory. People can.

Keep in mind that if such a device allows a soldier to carry so much more weight, it would also mean he could carry that much body armor - including all over his legs.

And also; COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.

I think I saw one of these in Bladerunner.

Old news.

And happydud, if a truck is conspicuous behind enemy lines, you think that a man with a refridgerator on his back isn't?

I can see it now...

With the ability to cut budgets by having individual troops carry heavy loads, they are entrusted with transporting materiel components:

"Hey mates, let's set up the patriot missile launcher!"

I think Flexor's on to something. I mean, we have the technology to armor individual soldiers against gunfire, but the problem has alwas been that it was too heavy. A squad of heavily armored infantry guys using this technology could probably take on a hostile force directly 10x their size..

Finally, super villain becomes a viable career track. I can't wait to get a full suit and walk down the street throwing appliances and small vehicles at people. I will also live in a technologically advanced cave and have the capability of firing missiles at strategic targets around the globe. Basically, NORAD incarnate.

Notice though it is also for fire fighters, not just soldiers.
