5 / 8 games work for me on the first try.

Games that worked for me without any effort:
GTA III
Max Payne
Morrowind
Starcraft
Warcraft III

BF1942 - installs, dosn't launch
Diablo II - almost working, it's b****ing about the "play disk"
Ghost Recon - Intro movie stutters and loops

And I havn't even started troublshooting those games, and they are close to working. I havn't noticed any difference between this and windows as far as performance, save the lack of pixel shaders and poor sound.

Linux sound has always been craptacular, and for some reason I think it always will be :/

I'm surprised you were able to get any of those games working at all, let alone on the first try. The compatability listings for WineX have always been grossly exaggerated in a pathetic attempt to con people out of their pocket change.

old builds of WineX were horrible... The one that came with Redhat9 worked OK for me. *shrug* I don't emulate many windows applications. When I'm on my Linux box, I use Linux aps.

I find that Wine works for most things that I try... Granted, all I even try to run is lightweight stuff anymore, but Wine has come a long was since an app took 2 minutes to start. Now, if it does start, it starts faster than it does on Windows. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

The only reason bf1942 didn't work is because it needs to be patched. So I am very satisfied with WineX.

Linux - Uh... I had Mandrake 9.1 on my box for a month. I used it twice.

Windows - It sucks, but it works for me and what I want it to do.

That's the problem, you can't expect linux to use you. You have to use it.

I've only used Linux once, and seen many screens, but even I know that's not true. It HAS to be better than Windows...I mean...just...ergh. Some of you know why I *****, [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

You know what the coolest things is? I think Morrowind may even have better performance on Linux. I am using my Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64mb and am able to run it at 1024x786 with 4x FSAA. Framerates are as smooth as silk. (As far as Morrowind goes... we all know it's a [edit]choppy[/edit] engine) On top of that, everything loads faster. You know why? Because ReiserFS > NTFS > FAT32.

Winex kicks more *** than I thought. I now have 9 / 10 games working with little effort. Now I can play Battlefield 1942, Half Life, and Diablo II LoD in addition to the ones I named before.

Question:

If you are using a windows emulator (like winex) on linux to run windows apps, does it make the linux system itself any less stable than if you were running stuff designed for linux? Windows progs are inherrently buggy and unstable, so I was wondering if any of that instability carried over through the emulation of a windows environment.

No, PW, if a program crashes in Linux, it *RARELY* affects the system or any other program.

First off, it doesn't emulate windows. It runs the dlls required, with linux equivalents. And second off, yes, they are just as unstable in Linux, but it (just as GBK said) rarely ever effects the rest of the system. SOOOooo the game will crash, but you'll just be looking at the desktop, and not a bluescreen.
