Hate Mike Myers... Die Big Cat, Die!
2003-11-30, 2:34 PM #1
I say Cat in the Hat (my friend's bro is 10, and he asked if we wanted to go, so we figured why not? It may be funny). It was terrible. Mike Myers has NO talent... NONE at all, and he hasn't ever had talent, exception being Wayne's World (only the original). Austin Powers I wasn't terrible, it had somewhat of a sense of freshness, but both sequels were god aweful just repeating the same jokes. Cat in the Hat is worse, and it just goes to show us all that Mike Myers should be completely out of the business within the next couple of years. He's not funny. At all. It'd be nice to say that he should have given up while he was ahead, but you'd have to ask yourself "when was that?"

I enjoyed the Austin Powers sequels personally....however, wild horses could not drag me to see Cat In The Hat. I do not enjoy seeing my childhood memories raped and mauled. I do not like it, I do not like it at all.

Mike Meyers isn't a bad actor. He just got a horrible role.

I've thought cat in the hat looked stupid the first time I saw it announced.. now there's so much publicity that I've grown sick of it.

I think there should be a Cat in the Hat 2: Rabid Cat. In this movie, the Cat goes running violently around the house with foam coming out of its mouth. The children then get scared and pull out a loaded rifle. BAM. The end.

They aren't criticizing Suess. I believe the unanimous consensus would be that he is an unparalleled genius. The movie is where it went bad.

[EDIT]P.S. its not like Suess had any direct input for the movie.

If your going to criticize me, learn to do so properly. It'll take more than one sentence -- which you probably read ten times making sure there were errors that would give me merrit to call you hypocrite -- to tell me off. Hell, maybe you shouldn't have even bothered, considering the fact that ten people before you responded without even mentioning my grammar. Maybe you shouldn't talk if your not going to bother to listen make a valid attempt to listen.

I don't criticize Dr. Seuss, nor did I. I grew up with him, I love him... I saw a movie based on his book which many of you probably will not see. Infact, Mikus, if YOU think he's such a genius, how come you havn't seen his movie yet?

If you saw the movie, you'd quickly realize that Mike Myers did not only improvize quite a bit, he was probably instrumental in the writing of the script. Mike Myers was even on Oprah saying how happy he was that he got to play the role. He even said that it was "the role [he's] been hoping to play his whole life".

Regardless, Mike Myers is just stale humor, as far as I'm concerned. There is little he does for situational and verbal humor, and the fact that he's been so sucessful bothers me, and it has with little exception. Furthermore, I don't think Shrek was that great either. Certainly it was better than any of the Austin Powers films, but as I said, thats not saying much.

So yeah, you can agree with me, or you can disagree with me, but don't think your better than me because you have a different opinion.

Also don't make yourself look like an idiot by visiting threads just so you can talk about people's grammar. Really! Its for your own good.

I agree, Myers is down right annoying, and his humor is overused, abused, and reused by 100s of other comedians. It really scared me 3 or so years ago when all of my friends were screaming annoying phrases that are actually quite common in a higher-thought based community such as Europ. And what he's done to Cat and The Hat irks me. It scares me in a very bad way. For one, like someone mentioned above, perverted comments are NOT to be included in a children's classic. Secondly, Seuss was a rhyming god. The man could write entire books without skiping a rhyme, now THAT is talent. Making a movie that has the same characters, the same general storyline, and inserting rude, perverted, annoying, unhelpful, and un-rhyming crap is NOT talent, it's 3rd grade gym class.

i dont like the grench(movie) or this one, i blame the producer(the same person, i dont know who) but he's the one to blame, let us put him to shame!

I dont like Mike Myers basicully because the Austin Powers movies make me sick to my stomic when seen, wayyyy to much crude humor.

(that and the one time i did watch them, i was over at my friends house who's family has 2 adopted pre-schoolers who were allowed to watch the movie with us.... makes me sick)

Nah, it actually just means the people who reuse his humor aren't funny either. Many of his humor is stolen from other people, too. "You put the wrong EMphasis on the wrong SYLable"... Honestly I've known people who have been saying that phrase for years.

Comedic actors are instrumental in the writing of the projects which they work on. Notice how Happy Gillmore reflects many of Adam Sandler's work on SNL? Its because often times, the actors help write the script or improvise on set. Mike Meyers is one of these actors. Both Wayne's World Films... All Three Austin Powers Films... at least five of the movies he was in he has writing credit for.

So, according to "its the writers fault".... right, It's Mike Myer's fault.

I meant that he reuses everyone elses comedy. Honestly, I've been watching late-night and stand up ever since I was a little kid. I own tapes upon tapes upon tapes of hours of Comedians that most people have never heard of. Because of this, I've heard quite a large range of humor types and Myers has stolen a large portion of European comedian's talent and jokes.
