Woman Gets Criminal Record for Petting Dog

While the subject is rather amusing, I found some of the quotes especially humorous and figured since I post everything from Yahoo!'s "Oddly Enough" section, why not this too?

Quote:
<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">"When I went out there to fill up the dog bowl, this woman was standing in my back yard," attorney Ron Berki told the San Jose Mercury News. "My response was, `Who ... are you?' She told me, `I'm here to pet your dog.'"</font>

Her excuse of why she is in his backyard is priceless.

Not sure why "animals" has a plus sign on each side of it....

Being nice to a dog is wrong? I mean, if he had a fence up and a sign that said "no tresspassing," ok, but it doesn't mention that. But we probably aren't hearing the whole story, anyway. I noticed it says she pleaded guilty to prowling, and surely just petting a dog and giving it some water isn't prowling, so...

Petting also means fondling someone's genitals in a sexual way.

I know I would have a problem with strangers sneaking into my back yard and petting my dog. I mean, it's not like I'm going to turn around, look out into the backyard and see a total stranger out there with my dog. It's just not normal...

Do you want people you don't know in your backyard?

I wouldn't want some stranger petting my dog, especially in my own yard.

Maybe she was planning on kidnapping the dog... and failed to realize that she could be easily seen in broad daylight. *shrug*

Besides, I think he was overreacting. Charging someone with trespassing just because they petted you dog?

Normally, trespassing is charged for just being on someone's private property..

Yeah, she didn't get charged for petting the dog. She got charged because she was in the guy's backyard for absolutely no reason without permission.

Oh yay. I would be damned if I saw people I diden't know in my backyard petting my dog. That makes me want to put a sign on my fence that says. "NO DOGGY PETTING!"

This should not be abnormal! A man should be able to see a cute dog and hop a barbbed wire fence to pet it!

Oh my freaking crap. It's a dog for pete's sake. Where do you think they slept *before* we domesticated them?

I've had a dog now for about a year and a half, and it's only slept inside on one occaision, and that was when we knew the temperature was going to drop under -5 degrees (f) in the night.

...And also, what a stupid woman. You don't just go into somebody's yard to pet their dog. First of all the dog could very well have attacked her (I know my dog would if someone tried to pull that, and he's one of the friendliest dog I've ever encountered). Second, she is tresspassing.

I mean, it's one thing if you reach over the fence to pet the dog, but another thing entirely if you go into the yard to pet it...

And,

Odds are that if he had a dog, he had a fence. As far as a no tresspassing sign, I hope that we're not coming to a point where people think it's ok to go into other people's yards without permission just because there's no sign there that says otherwise.
