Bought UT 2004, and, hey, it doesn't blooming work...
2004-03-19, 7:41 AM #1
Yeah, God loves me clearly. I bought, I took home, I tried to install, I got an I/O error. I suspected my DVD drive was broke for some time, but my PC company, before going bust, didn't really want to know, so I've got another reason to hate the **** out of them. If anyone does know any better (I'll tell you now it plays DVD movies no problem and the UT2K4 demo worked fine for me) and can help I'd be understandably greatful. Anyone who shouts 'haha,' 'lol,' 'pwned,' or something similar will piss me off and incur the wrath of God. Don't do it. It's not funny. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Haven't a clue what's wrong. When does it give you the error?

Halfway through the install after the DVD drive whisks the crap out of itself very noisily.

Or, check out a CD-RW or just CD drive, they are dirt cheap these days, and since your DVD drive works some of the time, then.. yeah

Make an ISO, put it on your hard drive, and use Daemon Tools.

Kinda off topic: But the 2nd disc of UT 04...the DVD with videos of them editing...is great.

Was thinking of starting levels for JA, but UT04 I will definatly start.

The guy in the video *And they are hours and hours long showing everything* builds a demo level that looks better then almost anything that was in JA...

It's great...

Sorry about your drive...but a new drive would be worth the money. UT04 rocks!

Yeah, that is DEFINITELY your drive. Same thing happened to me in the fall. The EXACT same thing. Halfway through or so.. it would just wind up and down forever until the computer froze or something.

Try turning off DMA mode for your disc drive while installing. A lot of people have been having this problem, and that seems to be the fix. You can turn DMA mode back on after the game is installed and it should run fun. Apparently it has something to do with the copy protection that the game uses.

Make sure when you turn off DMA you reboot. Then install it.
Enable DMA. Reboot.

Use Daemon tools to create an iso of the CD. Then mount the image to a virtual drive and install it from there.
