Okay, I was sitting in science today, taking a test. I was kind of lost in thought, thinking about, for a random reason, how we were created. Some say we came from the ocean, some say from Apes, others from God. Well, I all of a sudden got this idea on the ocean/ape part. What if the apes CAME from the ocean, and we came FROM the apes? That would explain our liquid saltish stuff, and having a link towards the apeish species!

Sorry God, I was stumped on your idea.

Discuss please, and tell any flaws in my idea.

If I remember my biology correctly, life (singles celled organisms) developed in water and came out at some point, so to say people came from the oceans and apes are both correct.

The notion that we came from apes who came from the sea is silly as hell, but that's not what evolution predicts. Apes didn't originate in the sea, nor did humans originate from apes. That's pretty easy to understand.

What's difficult to understand? If you've read about evolution, you would know that it doesn't predict that humans came from apes, nor did we directly descend from sea creatures.

We did evolve from apes (disclaimer: if you believe in evolution. can never be too sure these days), but from a lineage that has since become extinct, for the same reasons that you don't see neanderthals walking around today. Each part of the species that ended up in a different area evolved differently. those in tropical areas stayed small and kept prehesile(sp?) tails to facilitate moving in the forest. those that ended up in a forest of leavy but not fruit-bearing trees evolved to digest leaves beter (i.e. gorrilas). those that gots stuck in the plains because all the forest areas were taken by cometeing groups of apes leaned to use their ability to walk upright to a greater degree and then from there lots of other changes happened which lead to us. At least, that's one thory. Specificly, that of Stephen Baxter in 'Evolution'. great book by the way, if you're into that sort of thing.

That's a misnomer. We didn't evolve from apes, but from ape-like ancestors (arguing we descended from apes implies that present-day apes existed back then).

Ok, lets just say that the impossible is true and that evolution is true.

So, if we evolved from monkeys and apes, then why are there still monkeys and apes. Does it mean that only some of the creatures evolved? If thats the case then are there some more highly evolved humans?

OMG, THE CHIANESE!!!!!!!!!! NOW I UNDERSTAND.......

Umm......I really didn't know where I was going with this. I COULD state some facts that completely outrule evolution, but I'm too lazy. So.......READ THE BIBLE YOU CRACKERS!!!

Oh dear... Look there is no question whatsoever as to whether evolution is a real process. It's just the natural version of what man has been doing with domestic animals for hundreds of years, ie breeding them to produce offspring which are superior to their parents.

Now, for one moment i'll just ignore all religious arguments and say that we evolved from the monkeys and apes. These are not the same monkeys and apes that are around today:

Code:
/-- Human Ancestor Monkey ------- Humans
Primordial Monkey ---
\-- Modern Monkey Ancestor Monkey ------- Modern Monkey

Now, despite how rediculously simplified the above is, it's not hard to understand.

Read. Comprehend. Post. I already said we didn't evolve from apes. We share, with apes, a common, ape-like ancestor.

I actually agree. The whole "God made man in his own image" thing is metaphoric. If you read later parts of Genesis, it becomes clear. God's image was sinless. That's why Adam's offspring were in Adam's own image, and not God's. It had nothing to do with the way they look. How long did God take in developing man? Who knows. What methods? Who knows. That's not the focus of religion.

I still don't understand why people insist that science and religion contradict... unless of course you take relgious documents literally, which quite often doesn't work, particularly in Genesis.

Also about evolution, most of you don't realize that it's non-linear. In other words, it branches off, many times. If it were linear, there would only be one species on the planet. Clearly, there is not.

Two questions:

1) Who cares?
2) What difference does it make now?

Seriously, I will never understand the human desire for ones own history. If we concentrated more on the present and future goals, we'd be far more advanced, both technilogically and biologically.

Every single member of a species does not evolve in the same way. This is evident even in humans for the fact that we have different races, i.e. Africans (along with other races, but they are the most obvious) have darker skin to combat brighter sun. Other groups of our common ancestors ended up in different locations and so evolved differently. The reason why the evolution of humans is not very obvious is for the fact that homo sapiens are a rather young species.

I did not emply that present day apes ar our ansectors. that would be stupid, as evolution is a constant process. what i said was that our common ancestor fell into the family of apes, and from there split off into the different species of apes we see today. Just because we are not all that ape-like now doesn't mean we didn't have an ape ancestor however many million of years ago.
