...being pessimistic? Can't think of any. I thought of this from the "half full, half empty glass question." Optimistic nature, from what people say, brings hope, confidence, determination, cheerfulness and stuff like that in life. But what about those who think of the worst that can happen most of the time? Possible benefiting qualities?

I'm not often pessimistic. But I wonder about those who are...

You're never disappointed, and often pleasantly surprised.

It seems to me that pessimists are the kinds of people that react to events before they occur. Optimists wait until after an event to react to it.

There aren't any advantages. There can't be. There is just NO WAY that there could be. Impossible. It's sick how you think there can be, when there clearley isn't.

Pessimism leads to always being prepared for things, and if they don't happen, you're pleasantly surprised. Optimism leads to disappointment and UNpleasant surprise. You be the judge. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

You can enjoy the feeling of smug superiority when your optimist friends take a fall, because you knew it was going to happen....eventually.

I'm so optimistic that sometimes it's detrimental. :/

I am a pessimest, pretty much, and i can't help it.

Strong optimists bug me so much.

Pessimism prepares you for the worst, while optimism gives you that positive encouraging feeling you need to keep trying. It's good to have a balance of both.

What is an optimist?

A pessimist who's making a bloody mess of it.

I challenge the airy-fairy optimists of this world to counter-joke. Nyaaah!

See, what's sad is when the optimist keeps trying to do something that's impossible. It's like watching someone trying to walk through a wall, but just keep on slamming into it over and over again. It's not a good thing, it's just dumb.

The best thing about being a pessimist is you can laugh at people like that.

No, that's what we call an idiot. I'm not an optimist if I keep jumping off a wall because I believe that i'll eventually work out how to fly.

An optimist merely believes that the favourable outcome will be the one that happens. I've always tended to be a pessimist, but I recently realised it stopped me recognising a good thing until a long time after it had happened. It meant I was missing opportunities. So it got the the point where I was completely unshockable and it was impossible to suprise me, at the cost of making myself miss all the good things too.

Time to make some changes methinks.
