Pfft no, im not gonna preorder HL2 but i will get it... HL may have a snore of a story but the gameplay in 2 looks awsome.. kinda like Max Payne 2 on the hardest comp steroids there is.

A Starwars themed BF1942 game could be mmmmmllphgfhfghf....however....is this an inhouse project? If so....forgive my low expectations.

You never know, it might be good! It's got the potential to be good, but no doubt as it's multi-platform they'll make it like a crappy console game like Starfighter and that other flying one thats similar to it.

For me, the time of buying a game just because it is Star Wars has long since passed. Battlefront will have to prove itself a worthy purchase, Half Life 2 already has.

jedi would ruin the gameplay if it's supposed to be like bf1942 in star wars universe

but it probably will so i won't be playing it...

Jedi are ok imo as long as they don't grip everyone and deflect hundreds of shots.

trust me in a BF1942 style game jedi would completely ruin the balance required to make such a game enjoyable

No it wouldn't. Assuming there was only a small number of jedi per team (as in, one or two), and they were actually "realistic" (as in, not being able to block everything and not having very many force abilities), than it would be pretty balanced.

Seriously, ever since... well, MoTS I believe, LEC has been pumping out crap. The one good decision they made was to have JK2 made by Raven. I don't know, maybe the changing of presidents will restore them to their former glory, but with most of the good developers gone and Full Throttle 2 canned, it looks hopeless.

Definately get HL2. The map size will be huge so it will be possible to make BF1942-style mods. Those mods will be so popular that LEC better release BattleFront before them if they want any PC sales.

The rumor (from a LucasArts source, posted at mixnmojo or something) is that Pandemic Studios is developing Battlefront. They made Clone Wars for LucasArts previously (decent game, nothing above average about it - although it was made on a really short time schedule), and they're currently developing Full Spectrum Warrior, which suprised a lot of people at E3 with a strong showing and is pretty heavily anticipated. Here's hoping Pandemic can really make Battlefront great..
