Do you see a page that says "Index of /"?

If so I will be very happy. Also how should I go about setting up a share in smb.conf so that I can get to /var/html from my Windows desktop? I tried adding it and I can see it but it's read only, and yes I did set writeable to yes.

Yes, I see "Index of /", and a Desktop.JPG file, although clicking on it gives me a "access denied" message.

Yeah I can't figure out why it's doing that. The server is a PowerMac G3 running debian linux. Just wanted to make sure the port forwarding was working as from here it didn't look like it was. How do I go about fixing the permission problems seeing the JPG?

Thanks for the fast replies for my other ?

WORKING! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

How do I automaticly get the files I put in the /var/html directory to be owned by www-data. If I go to the folder and type "chown www-data *.*" it works just fine, but otherwise I get the forbidden message. Also if this helps any I'm copying the files over from a mapped drive on a windows machine, and I'm logged into samba as root.

In order to get the Linux drive to show up in Windows, youll have to set up your smb.conf. Its a peice of cake, and its problably most set up already. As root, load it up in vi and change the workgroup to "workgroup", or whatever you call your SMB network.. Then, add the following code:
Code:
[serve]
comment = Linux Server
path = /var/html
browseable = yes
readonly = no

Youll also have to set the security level to "share". Use chown to change /var/html's owner to www-data, then restart smbd and nmbd.

On the Windows side, mount the share with www-data's username and password. It should work, and all files created should get assigned to www-data.

...However, file ownership isnt as important as the file's permissions. As long as all users have read and execute permissions, apache will have no trouble dishing it out.

[Ehehe, forgot the path... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/redface.gif]]

Heh, thanks GBK, I found the problem though. Samba was writing all the new file permissions as 0700, I changed em to 0775 and it works great. Thanks!
