My new optical trackball. I wanted the wireless optical trackball from Logitech, but at $52 US, I can't afford it right now. Another time perhaps...

Meanwhile, this one is downright seksi.

What's the point of using a wireless trackball? The only time it seems useful is if you want to move your trackball far away from your PC.

Oh, and I can't stand trackballs either.

It really hard to get used to the trackballs, but once you do, its actually extermely easier to play a FPS, or any game for that matter, with it. Its amazing how much.....control(for lack of a better word) your thumb can have.

(Oh, BTW, i am talking about the trachballs that use your thumbs, i can't stand that ones that are in the middle myself [http://forums.massassi.net/html/redface.gif] )

Uh, how does that even work? i can't even think how i could control a trackball with my middle finger. but then agin, normal lazer mise are beter anyway, so i guess it doesn't matter.

At this very moment, Im reclining in my chair watching TV on my second monitor... Ive got my trackball on my lap. If I were using a mouse, I would not be able to control my computer... but becuase Im using a wireless trackball, I can still change channels and whatnot.

Anyone who disses trackballs simply hasnt used them to any significant degree. True, they do have a learning curve, and they do take a while to get used to, but they are *much* better than mice.

Mirosoft Wireless Optical 2.0

I got that for Christmas, and I NEVER want to go back to a normal mouse at home unless there is no other option.

GBK isn't the only one who can recline in comfort whilst browsing and doing various other activities.

On a side note, it's scroll wheel lets me scroll side to side as well as up and down. I've gotten so used to doing this, that I've almost broken some of the normal scroll mice at school. I usually quickly realize I'm not using my mouse and those mice don't do that. Then I'm just annoyed.

And no, I don't hack/cheat, I don't even know how, or have even tried to find out how [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] I use the same trackball as Ric_Olie, except white instead of grey/black. I only paid 10 bucks for it because someone had opened it and the manual was missing (wow, it was probably only one fold-out sheet anyways). I've had it for 3-4 years now, the Logitech logo has almost worn away... Good stuff [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Trackballs are excellent pointing devices. The reason no one uses them isn't because they suck, it's because it takes so long to get used to them. Do they offer any real advantages? Well, yeah, no surfaces to clean, no need for expensive "mousing surfaces" to reduce friction. I used a low tech one years ago, and I really liked it for RTSes. If you keep an open mind and feel like taking months to learn how to play games again, they're just as good.

I got mine for $23 including shipping from Provantage, which was $10 cheaper than anywhere else. And Logitech had them out of stock. As for gaming with trackballs, I wouldn't use anything else. It's great that you can quickly change direction in an FPS with just a flick of my fingers, instead of moving a mouse around. As for thumb trackballs, I can understand how people like them, but I've gotten so used to finger trackballs that it would be too awkward to use them.

Wireless keyboard. I never touch my mouse unless I'm looking at a webpage.

To me a trackball is worthless. I'd sooner get a touchscreen than a trackball.

Some mice are insanely expensive, the logitech ones in particular. My mouse is a Chic 2200. Wireless, Optical, Recharger, 5 buttons, 800dpi and the cost? £12.

doesnt look half bad either:-
