Rapiers are mainly piercing weapons(aren't the very similiar to foils, just not as thing?). Is there such a weapon that is like a rapier, but a little broader as to accomodate a slashing edge?

I was always under the impression that a rapier was more of a slashing weapon. Although I'm thinking of the classic thinner versions of the Arab looking curvey sword, which probably wasn't a rapier.

A rapier is a thrusting waepon designed mainly to get through the joints of armor. the foil is normally a duling weapons, and has a point only at the end, while rapiers have an edge (i think). you could always use a katana if you want a thin slashing sword, but if you want something more, uh, 'european', then i'm not sure. I could look thorugh my magazines for on,e but i'm sure someone here knowes it

They evolved from scimitars and falchion, yes, but typically the scimitar is wider and more curved.

Snoop around here and you might find what you are looking for. If you do find what you want, and you want to order it, don't worry about if they are reliable or not. I ordered a p99 from them and it came in good quality and time. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

got some vamps to kill, eh?

420-grade stainless is pretty good. my pocketknife is made out of 440 high carbon stainless, and that's the best grade that there is.

Rapiers are rather long, one-handed swords, razor sharp only on the last two inches of the sword, used to thrust in between armor. They did not have any sharp edges, other than the tip. The other hand usually held a dagger or small shield.

You would probably need a saber, as mentioned before, or a cutlass (pirate sword). A longsword (Lord of the Rings type sword) might be what you're looking for, but they're rather heavy. What do you need it for, anyway?
