I think Brian deserves a big thanks, for getting this part of the site updated. Now, I only hope that the rest of massassi can start to change for the better.

It's been a long in the making, but finally the forums have been upgraded. For the better I think.

I think it's cool. And you have to remember Brian said he will tweak the visual looks of the system in the near future, so the change might not be so big after a while.

its good.

Does the forum support having "Senior member" replaced by a custom message? If so, I want "Ultimate Scoundrel" I've definitely earned it. :)

Meh. I got used to GameFAQs change of appearance, I'll get used to Massassi's...
2004-09-03, 9:52 AM #14
...It's alright. I kinda already miss the simplicity of the older one.

I think it needs to be made a little more like the old forums (100% wide) the purple buttons should be changed too just to give the old feel of it.

I feel clostrophobic already :(

FFS! That post new topic button in treads is *incredibly* annoying.

Any chance of removing that? (Or putting the reply one first.)

Don't like em. There's so much wasted space on the sides, and all the text is condensed in the middle. This is torture for people with smaller screen resolutions.

Not to mention I'm disapointed at the whole lack of avatars.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

I like them, i've noticed a significant speed increase (i'm on 56k), so all is good.

As Brian has said, they'll gradually look more similar to the old forums as he gets to grip with the system.

The buttons on top will be fixed right?

Still, thanks!

There are some things I don't like.

-Thread ratings?? Is there a point to that?

-Colored texts may be overused or abused?

-It doesn't seem so simple. Maybe shaping the place up and getting rid of useless things may help (but that is being worked I assume).

-Message/thread icons? A point for that??

Oh well.

Once Brian is done tweaking it all, then it will be a wonderful upgrade. As it is, the forums are now much better. But, once all the buttons and stuff get set to the Massassi look, and when avatars are available *hopefully* then it will be perfect.

I deeply regret this. However, there are two thing I really appreciate. For one, the emoticon which is the single greatest emoticon of all time ever which actually manages to convey emotion: :(. And two, the new feature whereby you can click on the post number for each thread, giving you a list of who posted in that thread and how many times they did so. This is quite an interesting feature because it allows much insight in to the types of people that partake in raking in cheap posts to add to their total count. For example, the What are you listening to right now? thread in the Music forum reveals this.

Well, once the colors and interface are fixed, it should be at least as good as the previous forum. I did, however, like the old review method better than this one. I'm talking about when you are making a new post and the thread is reviewed at the bottom. I liked the scrolling window thingy better.

Echoman, I get what you're saying about the colored fonts, but I really hope they don't get taken away. They really rule! Take this mini-tutorial for example, which is even better to read with the formatting:

Tutorial: How not to be Annoying with the Forum's New Features

1. Being Tasteful with Colors
Use colors to get your point across in a meaningful way. Avoid using colors that are hard to read on a dark background; it's simply the courteous thing to do. You don't like to strain your eyes to read something, do you? Well, neither does anyone else. On that note, use color sparingly. Don't write your entire post in color. It just looks bad.

2. Font Size
Don't write your entire post out in either a huge or tiny font. It doesn't mesh with the rest of the other posts, and makes the forums unattractive. Some posters may not care about preserving the forum motif, but respect those who do. Use different sizes of font for miscellaneous formatting only, such as the title of a well-formatted document.

To sum up:
  • Avoid using dark colors on a dark background
  • Use colors sparingly and for special purposes
  • Try to use some tact with the colors used
  • Don't abuse font size; change it only if necessary
  • Avoid writing your whole post in an unoriginal font size

Remember, this is a community with different tastes and attitudes toward forum organization. Please avoid abusing the forum features that have been provided to you to use as tools, lest they get taken away for everybody else. If your post is heavily formatted, remember to hit the "Preview Reply" button to look over your post before submitting to make sure it is tactful. If you have any questions, feel free to email them to me!

P.S. If anyone feels like stickying my post, go right ahead! ;)

also, an exception to the font size / tasteful colors rule of thumb is GBK text, but GBK text must be used in a tasteful manner as well.

I'm pretty sure the majority of members here are in agreement with the "tutorial", especially the ones who are reluctant about the forum's new features. So if you want to get it taken away from everybody, go right ahead.

uuummm, interesting change, not totally used to it yet, not all too keen on the buttons at the moment but guessing they are the standard ones that come with it and brian will get round to changing them later...

should try and get the full width back, its bad enough when people start posting pics larger than my screen res, it'll be even worse now....

would like the old preview of the thread your posting in back if at all possible....k you can see below but I always liked the old method more...

on the whole though its looking promising....
