One of my cats is dieing... :(

:( :( :(

One of my two cats, Tiger, is dieing. Her kidneys have shut down, or what's known as Chronic Renal Failure. We noticed when she started to lose a lot of weight, and after she wouldn't gain any back, we took her to the vet. Since her kidneys do not work, her body is poisening itself with it's waste, and as such she doesnt feel good and will not eat.

Supposedly there is a treatment that can help cats with this, that involves IV solutions on a weekly basis, but the vet believes she is too sick to think that it will do any good. Even if it does work, there's no telling how long it can last. She is like one of the family, but we're not sure wether we should spend the money to even try.

I'm not one to give up easily, but there is no cure for this, nor can the IV solution last very long, if work at all. So all I ask is for good vibrations and/or prayers, for Tiger and that her end is as painless as possible, and also for my Mom, that she may take the loss the best she can.

I sympathize greatly.

Before I started my senior year of high school mom had to euthanize our cat. :( He was constantly getting kidney and bladder stones. For reasons unknown his calcium was through the roof. Unfortunately he got this syndrome at the worst time because family was in a financial crunch. He could be healed but it would have been a serious detriment financially. Oh, it happened to occur on that day when I was out running and trying to go over a fence and have it collapse on me, thus resulting in a minor concussion. So cat dies and I get a concussion! That was a swell day! :(
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Damn, that's hard. I lived a good portion of my life serving our cat, before moving out. The cat's now almost 15 years old, and still eating happily.

Maybe it will help you to cope with the situation or maybe not, but one should remember that animals don't think death as much as humans. It's only humans who tend to forget death is a part of life, in fact it defines life. It seems your cat lived a nice and comfortable life well loved. I think it will die peacefully and regretting nothing.

Maybe it's a curse of the new forum software...

I feel for you. I've had two cats die and one run away (I don't know what happened to it, I guess it got run over by a car or something.) It suffered from kidney failure just as yours, but not as extreme, so we just gave it a special diet to combat it.

Go out back, get a brick. End it quick....

That or get the cat put to sleep. No use in having it suffer.

I'm going off to Uni next year, and the thing I'm most sad about is leaving my cats. I'll miss them more than my parents.

I couldn't imagine not having my cats. My cats are sisters, both totally black, and a bit podgy (one considerably fatter than the other). Dosey is now on my bed, in a similar position to your Smokey in that picture. They look so happy.

Beautiful cats. Sorry to hear, but I'd suggest you put her down as soon as possible. Imagine: Not having kidnies has got to be painful.

That is the exact thing that happened to my 5 year old cat. We spent about 5 thousand dollars on shots, checkups, and leaving her at the vet for a week.

Non of it helped at all. We decided to end her misery so we put her to sleep :(

I'm sorry, and I hope your cat gets better :(

:( I know how you feel (kind of)

I love cats as well. I hate watching pets suffer. My first rabbit got a disease from a dog, my first hampster died of wettail, my second had a heart attack during a thunderstorm...
