Do anti-drug TV ads really work?

Check some out:

These are the common ones that I see on the television. But, after viewing them (and finding some funny), I began to think about them. Are they actually effective in portraying the harmful effects of drug in a way people would care? I assume our society, and the people the ads are mainly reaching to (teenagers and parents), are already educated about drugs and don't need to be reminded how to deal with it. But, probably there are few people out there, after watching these adverts, change their view/usage on drugs, or something. Though, they don't portray any disturbing images of destroyed organs and ugly bodily damage (now, that would be effective!) but rely on clichéd repesentation of teenagers and family life. Meh. Thoughts?

Oh, post an anti-drug ad that you found funny/interesting/plain annoying.

The anti-drug commericials try to scare people into not using rather than educating them about the drugs, which I think is stupid.

actually, they don't really even try to scare people, they kind of just try to be like hey, it's still cool not to do drugs, but I doubt anyone would really watch these and be like "hey, you know what? they're right! I can always say no and still be cool with my friends" or anything like that.

people that want to get high will do it no matter what anyone tells them.

Pot isn't that bad compared with coke, heroin, and other drugs. I never heard of anyone overdosing and dying from pot.

It can still get pretty bad... my sister's boyfriend's father is a major pothead. He's been addicted to it for a long time, his son has to support him all the time because he spends all his money on pot. The dad also slacks off due to it and gets fired alot.

I don't think the commercials really point out the right things, like they usually make it sound like anyone does pot is unhuman and can't handle any responsibility. I mean I think it'd take a real immature person to smoke pot when they're supposed to be watching a little kid that wanders around like the pool commercial.

Such as my sister's boyfriend turned out pretty well despite being raised by primarily a pothead. The commercials really don't seem to push much towards using it maturely if you -do- use it, but just try to get you to see it their way and nothing else.

I dont beleive they do anything. It's just a waste of money if you ask me. I havent realized any significant drop in usage among people. Of course i havent seen the statistics lately either I suppose.

Just smoke pot till it doesnt effect you, problem solved... my friend learned to drive stoned.

And as far as drug ads go, must of them just tell you how evil drugs are.... and i know a lot of massassi will disagree with me here, but i like to see both sides of the viewpoint before making a decision.

POT IS NOT ADDICTIVE.

There is no physical addiction component to pot, Jedigreedo, only your friend's dad wanting to get high. I'm serious. Everything that he perceives as addictive is all in his head.

And maybe his son should STOP supporting him--that's what we call a rude awakening, or intervention.

I think they should make pot legal. It's less intoxicating than beer, it's not hat adictave, and were wasting tones of tax dollars on it.

Odds are, television isn't going to show ads about how drugs are alright (maybe beer ads, I don't know). I have yet to see an ad about the benefits of marijuana for medical purposes.
