Evil Genius Demo

Build an evil lair!

Keep out the agents of justice!

Use the pinky finger as your cursor!

Have a really impressive desk!

I only played a bit of it, but it looks pretty good. Who wouldn't want to build an evil lair so you can take over the world?

the good guys.

I didn't really like it. I spent my time building freezers to store the corpses. I don't need a videogame to do that.

You reckon it'd run on my laptop?

2.4Ghz Celeron, 194MB RAM, on board graphics.

Looks like it might occupy me for a few minutes...

This game has the potential to be so damn cool... The demo didnt really show that :(

The forces of justice just kinda constantly attacked 3 or 4 at a time, and were quickly pummled into submission by my gang of 30 unarmed construction workers while my henchmen stood there watching, very occasionally showing their 5 frames of animation to dispatch an enemy who got through. *yawn*

Shame traps arent in the demo, they do have the potential to save the game. Just not sure if I want to spend $90 to find out...

This looks like a fantastic game. I don't really understand why people expect so much from this when it is simply a demo.

There are so few games that are totally funny. I really loved Armed and Dangerous, and NOLF. And this looks to be great, if you enjoy Theme Hospital style games.

On a vaguely related note, I shall certainly be getting Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 too, as that is of a similar genre, but slightly less evil.

Also, Evil Genius is being developed PC-only. This alone makes it winner.

In the full version, they have significantly reduced ratings. I think your heat's about 80%, so you get a constant stream of agents. That was just to give you a taste of combat, since you can't raise heat by stealing world map stuff.

And the lack of traps were part of the 200MB size limit. Elixir wanted to put a bit more stuff in, but couldn't so they could keep the size down.

I enjoyed it a lot. I can't wait until release.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

YES!

I'm not getting the demo, due to "meh" reviews. Maybe I'll indulge in the full version.

It's just like Dungeon Keeper minus the 'good.'
2004-09-06, 8:44 AM #10
Minus the good, and adding more evil :) The trailer is pretty good though too, seeing some of the traps in action.

I'm definatly getting the full version, as to someone's question, it will work on your laptop.

It worked on my rig.

600 mhz and 256 MB RAM, 64 MB video card.

Evil Genious itself is a great concept, and the game has some fun elements in it. However, there are parts of it requiring too much micro-management (such as fighting off ALL the good-guys when they pass through your doors that DON'T keep them out, or having to manually shift hundreds of corpses) and these severely spoil the whole experience.

Genius.

It's ingenious but it's genius

Also, the micromanagement makes it all a lot more personal. You can decide what you want to do with the agents. If you have a well designed base, you don't have to anything, they'll just snoop around, see nothing suspicious, get bored and go away. Or you could capture them and interrogate them. Or you could hurl insults at them (I didn't quite understand what this one did, the psychological attack..).
Also, I imagine there will certainly be some other way to dispose of bodies. I too had to build a second huge freezer room full of racks, and still had body bags sprawled out over the corridor.

The psychilogical attack thingie makes valet and other social minions do stuff to them. No insults methinks, it's more like, dust off their clothes and shine their shoes.

I personally thought the demo was great, and defintely plan to look into this game once it's released. I really loved the cheesy retro 60's style of it. Plus, who doesn't want to take over the world? But I do think that you get attacked too much... and that your enemies shouldn't be able to get past your front doors so easily.
I bet you think that's funny, don't you.

i'm highly entertained by the demo.

it didnt seem difficult to keep attackers under control, i usually mark them with a kill tag as soon as they snoop round the island, and i always keep the base on yellow alert so everyone is armed.

easily done.

Evil Genius Demo FAQ

Basically a list of the cool stuff that they had to cut form the demo and an explanation of body bags, constant attacks, etc.

I enjoyed the demo a lot, can't wait to play the full game with more features.

I'm glad there won't normally be so many agents in the final game.

I heard that you can get the traps (which are supposed to be unavailable in the demo) by hitting Ctrl+Alt+Shift+D and then using ~ to bring down the console and typing 'giveall'. I have yet to actually try this, but it sounds cool.
I bet you think that's funny, don't you.

I'll post later, ive been meaning to download that for about a week now but never got round to it

Definately buying this...

Well, after reviewing that list of modifications, I must admit that the full version of Evil Genius sounds a bit more appealing.

agreed,

From the demo it seems like a cheap dungeon keeper clone.

If you liked the demo, I suggest you spend the 5$ on dK 1 or 2.

Agreed. Although I am surprised it came to that. Next time they should just release a competent demo...
