Body Mass Index
2004-09-07, 12:49 PM #1
Purely in the interests of science, I thought it would be educational to learn how fit Massassi is as a whole, based on weight. Now merely posting weight in kilograms would be useless, as everyone is of a different height, so an alternate measure is needed: the body mass index. Now this is your weight in kilograms divided by the square of your height in meters, but don't worry, most BMI calculators online can do both Metric or Imperial (English) measurements.

The four catagories are as follows:

# Underweight = <18.5
# Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
# Overweight = 25-29.9
# Obesity = 30 or greater

I, myself, happen to be 20.9 at the moment, which I'm pleased with, as I used to be like 25-26ish... What's your score? Feel free to vote anonymously if you're scared of revealing this figure online.

I'm not too sure on the number, but I'm about three quarters of the way to Overweight.

BMI is incredibly flawed in the sense that it doesn't take into consideration the muscle-mass and skeletal mass of the person. Muscles weight even more than fat does.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

That is true, but BMI is usually a good estimate for most people. I guess it'd be a bit off for the very athletic folkes out there.

19.0-19.7 (depending on what I ate that day). I'm very active during the summer, but generally slow down a bit in the cooler months (hoping to end this bad habit this year). I'm currently 140-145 lbs and am 6 feet tall. During the cooler months, I get up to a maximum of 160-165, which would make my BMI 21.7-22.4. If I gain any weight these days, it's strictly muscle.

I am overweight, but muscle weighs more then fat...

First off, I have to say that BMIs are retarded because at 5'10", 200 pounds, I have a BMI of 28.7 which is damn near obese and I am no where near obese, but that's what I get for having a lot of develped muscle on my body

Likewise, I'm 167cm (5'6'') and 80kg (~180 pounds) but I am far from obese or overweight. BMI is still a useful tool but not if you're a regular exerciser.

I think this is for women or something... because I am totally underweight and it says I am normal at 18.7

I stand 5'10 weigh 130 lbs, skinnier than a stick

[I should weigh myself though. Haven't done that for a while.]

Dang! :p im 5" 9, 160, and strong.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Of course, you do realize that you fit in the very bottom of the normal range.

BMI's don't differentiate between muscle mass and fat. You could be ripped and the BMI calculator will still treat you like a fatass.

...and yeah I agree with those critical of BMI, when my back is better and I can add more body muscle I'll surely be over 25.

Just hit near underweight, but as many of you said, it's off.

23.8 apparently, but I think I've lost weight since I last weighed myself (in Finland) and we have no scales in my house.

17.6 I'm weird. I'm not weak, and I have muscle, and I'm tall. I'm just very anti-fat. I'm like the small guy in crappy games that's not hulking, but instead is really fast and hard to hit.

26.4 according to the calculator, but I have a heavy frame. The athletic trainer in cross country once told me I have a very good frame for football or soccer or lacrosse or any number of contact sports, but not for running. Oh well...
