Daily workouts...

I'm looking for a good webpage or some suggestions on some good, basic daily workouts. Something like pushups, situps, running, etc. The reason why I ask is I know that you're supposed to give your self a day off for each part of your body that you work, like situps Monday and Wednesday, pushups Tuesday and Thursday, etc. There is also right ways and wrong ways of doing situps, pushups, etc, which is why I'm looking for a webpage/website about it.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people here do some daily workouts, so we can also make this into a post your dailly workout routine.

Ehh... Some things (Crunches, push ups, pullups) you can do every day. Only with big heavy stuff (lifting weights) you should take a day off.

I can give you some pointers.. But I don't know any websites.

Situps have been found to be bad for your back, so crunches are the new thing. Basically, lay on your back, and then move your feet up closer to your butt. (Not too close though.) USING YOUR STOMACH, lift your head and shoulders off the ground, and then bring them back. Rinse, wipe hands on pants, repeat. Hand and arm placement doesn't really matter, as long as you're not pulling your head up with your hands, or pushing off the ground.

Pullups are easy. You can buy a pullup bar that fits in a doorframe for pretty cheap. Put it maybe.. six to twelve inches above your head? Closer to six. Then holding the bar- You can do this two ways. The easier way is to hold it with your palms facing you, harder is knuckles facing you. (By facing you, I mean on the side that you are, not pointed at you) Pull youself up until your chin is over the bar and then lower yourself so your head is below the bar, but your feet aren't touching the ground. Rinse, wipe hands on pants, repeat.

And running, go find a track near your house (high school?) to go run around. Set a goal. (A mile = 4 laps) Don't go all out the first time around, but try to develop a strategy. Get a good speed the first 3/4 lap, then slow down a bit to your 'distance speed,' then give it all out the last lap or 1/2 lap.

I generally walk for 2.5km every school night, then jog back the same distance, but at weekends, I extend the initial walking part to 12.5km (but still jog 2.5km). This isn't really helping my muscles, except in my legs, but it's definately improved my fitness, and helped me lose a bit of unwanted weight.

Do sit ups everyday until your stomach hurts a lot - get a six pack!

OMQ FLUD.

Or something.

About all the exercise I do involves walking about one and a half miles a day to school and back. I've certainly got more stamina than I did have, and I can do it faster than I could have. I'm still devoid of any upper body strength, though.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

I can get a sixpack on the cornerstore, way easier and tastes better.

What exactly are sit-ups anyways? I always assumed that they were pretty much the same thing as crunches. Can someone please explain the difference? Thank you.

crunches are sit ups where you don't touch the ground in between. sit ups are where you just basically thrash your head off the ground repatatively

Calisthenics you can do everyday. For weight lifting, you should skip a day or two (depending on how much you work your muscles) to allow the tissue to regenerate. Make sure you have enough protein in your diet (without going into excess) to build additional muscle tissue. Milk (calcium) is also very important in building muscle. Also note that you should always have at least a small snack before you start your workout. You have to remember that your metabolism doesn't have a brain of it's own - it works entirely on a bunch of failsafe mechanisms. If you haven't eaten in awhile, your it assumes that you're in lack of food, so it slows down to conserve energy. If you do exercise during that period, your metabolism slows down even more, and this will do you more harm than good. On the other hand, eating small portions on a regular interval (every 2-3 hours or so) will speed up your metabolism and keep it at a stable rate throughout the day.

My routine:

arms on day 1
legs on day 2
(don't do any abs)
2 hours of jogging/walking every day.

crunches are a good workout and will get you a six pack, but if you don't pair it with something that keeps your heart rate up (say jogging), you will get your nice six pack under your already existing fat. but jogging and crunches a few times a week, and jogging and pushups a few other times a week is a really great workout.

I don't work out and never have.

Althogh I have a 1 and a half mile walk to work and at work i'm on my fett all day. My work involves packing and moving around lots of boxes and stuff. That's enough to keep me fit :)

Eh...happydud your actually wrong. If you want to see improvments in any facets of working out or training, you have to give any part of the body a day to recover. That includes cruchs, and situps. You are just overworking tired tissues if you continue to do the excersices everyrday.

You can do your abs, cardio, and push ups daily without any trouble. Maybe at first you'll have to take a day off, becasue you'll be sore, but once you get yourself into shape, it won't reallly be a problem. You might want to think about adding pull ups and chin ups to that list of you don't want to use free weights.

When using free weights, it's not a bad idea a take a day between worksouts, especially if they are heavy work outs, but if you do light works outs with weights, again, the rest day isn't as necessary.

I've been lifting weights pretty much every other day since the summer started (minus a few days whenI was traveling and stuff) along with soccer, basketballl, and other activities like that a few times a week and it's done me pretty well.

What I started doing....

25 normal crunches
25 right crunches
25 left crunches
3x8 reps of these different crunches.... You go all the way up, stay there, and do 8 pulses, then go down slowly. 3 reps of that, apparently it targets the lower abdominals very well.
25 more normal crunches

You will have to start doing more after a while. You should be starting to feel the burn when you are in the last few crunches of each set. I'm up to doing 35 each now.

I also lift some weights, but it is nowhere near as effective as my crunches. I do 3x8 reps on my biceps, 3x8 more on a different type of bicep exercise, another 3x8 for triceps, then another type for triceps... it's hard to explain. 3x8 shoulders (very hard). Once in a while I'll exercise my legs on the bike, but I don't run much.

Are you kidding me? You cannot do situps and pushups daily without decreasing the time it takes for you to see the effects of the training start to kick in. Sure something will happen, but you do you REALLY want to work that hard to wait 2-3 more weeks before you see the same results compared to working out harder Monday Wednesday Friday (Sunday)?

Use wieghts, they work the best. I use 25 pound wights that my dad has and i gained a lot of muscle in a week.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
2004-09-07, 2:45 PM #23
....No way you gained "a lot" of muscle in one week unless you were on some sort of protien..not even that, you would have to be loading on creatine. Your muscles may have been swolen, so you thought you were huge..but thats not gaining muscle.

NO  i got buff, cause i had been sitting on my *** for about three months before. I have low metabolism.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
2004-09-07, 2:54 PM #26
No, in one week, lifting 25 pound weights, you did not get buff. It may have appeared that you were because after not working out for 3 months your muslce shrink. When you work them out intesivly the first few times, they get HUGE, because they are swolen from all the hard work. You then feel huge. It goes down after you continue to work out. After that point, after every work out you will feel big, but you wil swell down after 45 mins.

Tough break, kid.

Ubuu is right, gaining lots of viable muscle in a week is utter bull****. not even steroids will do that for you.

it takes months of hard work to get any signifigant gain if oyu dont cheat by using roids.
2004-09-07, 3:14 PM #28
Ubuu is right, if you're trying to bulk up then you don't want to be working the same muscle group each day. Muscle protein synthesis is greatest 24 hours after you exercise so if you exercise everday you are going to inhibit muscle growth.

If you're doing weights for muscular endurance it's a slightly different story.

My exercise:

Walk/run: 8km/day (not at the moment, I'm missing a large chunk of flesh from my heel due to a very large blister. I'll be going back to it as soon as that heals at which point I'll probably decrease my weight session.

Weights (I do a mini circuit)

3x15 bicep curls
65-100 crunches
3x20sec holds (I have my lower body on the bed but suspend my upper body over the edge and hold it)
30-50 squats w/ dumbells

30-50 pushups (feet elevated)
20-30 tricep dips
65-100 crunches
30-50 lunges w/dumbells

3x15 dumbell flys + 3x10 presses
65-100 crunches

I do that every second day. Every other day is a stretching session.
