Tonight on channel 5 they're showing cosmetic surgery live, who wants to watch a live operation when someone has 3 stone of fat removed in liposuction. Whats Tv coming to? Whatever happened to the good old days of rosanne and home improvement?
nope.

The worst part of TV now is the amount of blatant sexual content on during the daytime.
That painting was a gift, Todd. I'm taking it with me.

I dunno. ITV occasionally shows the odd film, other than that though, I never watch ITV.

BBC1 are showing the Indiana Jones films again :) Although the BBC still suck for stopping showing the simpsons :(

Channel 4 have all the best series, Friends, Ali G, Sopranos, Will & Grace and they had Spaced :D. Although occasionally you get repeats of Red Dwarf, Only Fools and Horses and other comedy on BBC.

Channel 5 used to rock. They used to have a film on every day at 9 or 10pm.
Most TV sucks though :(

For those who cannot stand to read nasty disgusting crap, please skip to the next post

I am not responsible if you read this post and are disgusted.

Yesterday, I ended up viewing a portion of Fear Factor...
It was just outright gross! The people had to chew up the tomato worm thingies (coudn't use their hands at all during this), spit their guts out into a tube thingie (enough to get above the red line), and the winner had to drink it afterward....

:vomit:
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

You don't have to watch it....

As for home improvement, there are way too many programs about it for my liking

Fear Factor is stupid. It is mostly just people doing gross stuff rather than actual fears. That and all the numerous Bachleor ripoffs (including the ones with a "twist") make reality TV really stupid to watch. Jerry Seinfield put it best when he said:

Quote:
"Thing I don't get is, why would go to work and deal with stupid people and then go home and turn on the TV just to watch more stupid people?" - Jerry Seinfield

That isn't an exact quote but close enough to the gist of what he said.

Don't get me wrong, some reality TV is good. Shows like "Last Comic Standing" are fun to watch. It's just the shows that have really lame gimmics for a plot that are stupid.

Reality TV isn't the only thing that sucks on TV these days. Its all those stupid sit coms that suck so bad they barely live more than a season. Most of them rely on sex jokes too often to be any good. The family sit coms are worse because they have some really dumb plots that shove a corny moral down your throat.

Because of the blandness of TV these days, I just stick to watching Anime on CN (only the really good ones, like the ones that are on Adult Swim). I also watch FOX news a lot too, although I'm getting tired seeing the same archers so much. So many damn blonde chicks with wet lips.

I haven't watched TV in over a year or two. Proud of it. Haven't eaten at Mc.Donalds in over three years. Proud of it. Yay! T.V. sucks and all the fast food (except KFC because I mean come on, you just can't resist that god like sex of a chicken with a nice side of taters[/Samwise] and gravy!!!) sucks.

Australian TV is the pits. We get all the american crap plus local crap which is somehow far far far worse. I've yet to see many american tv shows that can compare to MacLeod's Daughters, All Saints or Stingers when it comes to totally and utterly sucking ***.....and I'm not even going to mention our reality tv offerings.

Hate you world.

I guess you mean the weight context of "stone" eh? Cause it would be funny to see people get three fat stones get put -in- them, assuming of course they're reality tv execs.

Firefly only lasted a season, but that's not because it was crap. Unfortunately, good shows get cut too. Probably because Fox is dumb.

Indeed :( Firefly wasn't just the best sci-fi show I've seen, but one of the best shows period. At least it's kicking *** on DVD sales now and the movie(s)' on the way.

While I will be the first to label myself a Buffy/Angel fanboy and lover of all things Whedon (I liked Alien IV, although apparently no one else did:(), I am skeptical about plonking down my hard earned dollaroos for a show I have never seen before. The gushing reviews are only helpful to a point and not enough to convince me to whip out my wallet. Mr Walters, if you would be so kind, please tell me what can I expect from Firefly? Will I obsess over it like I do Buffy?

I can tell you, I don't think I've ever obsessed over a T.V. series, that is until I watched Firefly. Farscape was neat, but I could do without. Same with Sliders and Stargate and other similar Sci-Fi shows. But Firefly is friggin amazing.

The show is a Sci-Fi Western. I've really developed a connection to each and every one of the characters.

A brief run-through of the characters:

Mal - the captain. Definately has some of the best lines. Nathan Fillion does a most excellent job of portraying this character as he sould be.

Zoe - Mal's old army buddy. She's married to Wash. Mal's second-in-command. Her relationship with her husband provides for some interesting moments.

Wash - the pilot of the ship. He's not a fighter, though does envy Mal's and Zoe's army-buddy relationship.

Kaylee - the ship's mechanic, played by Jewel Staite. I don't know why, but I think she's incredibly pretty. A very homely girl that knows the workings of machines.

Jayne - at first glance, a seemingly flat character. However, one episode provides so much character development for him that it's wild.

Inara - a "companion." Her relationship with Mal is one of interest in the series. Lots of tension between those two.

Book - a "shepherd." Basically, a preacher. The conscience of the group.

Simon - the medic of the group. A rich kid that left his life to save his sister. His character is very deeply developed throughout the series.

River - Simon's sister. Definately the most interesting and sporadic character. I can't really say more without giving away too much plot.

Serenity - the ship. The crew's home and workplace.

Anyway, I have really fallen in love with this series. It's very dramatic at time, it's very funny at times without being stupid, and it's great overall. If you watch the DVD extras, you'll see that they used some cheesy camera moves, but it works very very well for this style of series.

Edit: oh, one last thing. Space is treated exactly as space should be treated in this series. The laws of physics hold true in Firefly.

I discussed this yesterday with a longtime online friend, Arby, who was once active in this community as RBF (or Resident Buffy Fanatic...just so you can understand where he's coming from) and we both agreed we may just have enjoyed Firefly more than Buffy at it's peak in the early years. That's saying a lot.

It's sci-fi with very well written dialogue (not the usual awkward sci-fi technobabble orgasm), fun engaging characters and a very unique feel to it given it's Western angle. Great production values for TV too. At least get the boxset before the Serenity movie comes out next April :)

Yeah, Firefly was a great show. It's truly a pity it didn't continue.

The only thing I didn't like in it were the Alliance cruisers; I can't understand why they looked like some skyscrapers floating in the space... Or maybe I just didn't get a good enough look at them.

I dunno, there was that episode where the engine broke and they were "stuck" in space... assuming they were actually flying to somewhere, they should have kept flying towards it at the speed they were going before the engine broke.

Also, Faster-Than-Light travel is never explained or referenced at all, though it must exist (unless all those inhabitable planets are supposed to be in a single star system).

But it's still a magnificent, fantastic show. Since it was never on TV here, I had to find some RM files of it on the internet. The quality isn't great, but the show is still fantastic.

Haven't found the DVDs anywhere, though.

I hate the sitcoms with black people, where every white person is cast as stupid or the 'comedy sidekick' or something. What's worse is that this is coming into children's sitcoms too. 'Smart Guy' actually poked fun at this, with the lone white guy saying "It's because I'm white, isn't it?" and the black guy going "Yup".

If you think television is getting worse, you just need to change the channel. There are great shows on the educational channels (Science, History, History International, Animal Planet, National Geographic, Health, FitTV, etc (there are more but you get the point)). Newsworld International (NWI) has some great documentaries as well as news coverage. The television/satellite is a useful educational tool if it's used properly.

There are a few decent reality shows out there. Joe Schmo 1 & 2 (Spike), although a bit tacky, is quite humorous, Mad Mad House (Sci-Fi), was a neat experience, and King of the Jungle (Animal Planet), is educational as well as entertaining.

Hell, it's worth watching TV just to see Star Trek and X-Files reruns. 2 of the greatest shows in history. I don't get to watch much TV these days (working full-time, going to school part-time, and walking/hiking 3-4 days a week), but there is almost always something decent on, when I do. I know it's trendy to deny that you watch television (although some truly dislike it; I did for years, before I got satellite), but there's no denying that there is some great programming out there, and that in some cases, it's getting even better.

I stick to cartoons and techTV. I like my TV simple, where I don't have to think much. I also like my TV not annoying. A morning of cereal, Teen Titans or maybe The Weekenders is a simple and enjoyable morning. Nothing I have to FORCE myself to watch.

I also really like crime shows, like the CSI and CIU shows. (No, not the show 'CSI' the shows ABOUT actual CSI and CIUs)

Spike TV, and Adult Swim are the only other things I ever sometimes watch. Really, TV has become horrid latelly. I maybe watch 3 hours a week, maybe 10 a month. That's usually only when I am eating dinner or breakfast. Otherwise I eat out on the deck, with friends, or I'm on the PC.
