I'm still confused. So suddenly, God decided to go against everything He stands for? Riiiight.
What would her children have to do with the world ending, anyway?

God has commanded war (if you believe the OT), so it's not like he would never, ever, ever use death as a tool of rightousness. I mean, the guy caused a flood that wiped out nearly the entire human race, once again, if you believe the OT. So don't say God != death, because it's not true.

However, I highly doubt he would ever order someone to kill their own child. It's just wrong. There's no logical reason to do it. If he needed her children in his prescence, he could bring it about naturally, through illness or something..

Yes, but even if an insanity plea is successful, you usually end up being confined to a psychiatric hospital for just as long or longer as you would've been put in jail. So it really all that much better, and its not like you get off without punishment.

Also, I doubt her insanity defense will work. In order for an insanity plea to be successfull, you have to prove that the killer at the time of the killing had no concept of right and wrong. Even if you halucinated and thought someone was telling you to do it, that is no proof that you didnt know what you were doing is wrong.

A newly observant Chasid begins to confess to his Rebbe, "Oh, Rebbe, I am a sinner, what can I do? As a painter, I cut corners, used only one coat, and mixed by paint with turpentine. I have cheated my fellow man!"

The tzaddik replied, "Go to shul, say your prayers, and the wisdom shall come to you."

The Baal Teshuva did so. As he was removing his tefillin, the Most Holy and Blessed One spoke to him, and said:

She could have no concept of right or wrong because she believed that God was specifically telling her what to do, which conflicted with her regular beliefs.

Its like if a cop allows you to cut thru someone's yard, even though it might be considered trespassing. The higher authority takes precedent.

Let me clarify. All the things in the OT were for a reason. God didn't just order war for His own entertainment.

Being insane doesn't make you not guilty. It's not like "I'm insane, therefore I didn't commit the crime."

That's more like what I meant to say.

And you'd get drugged to the eye-balls to try and 'fix' your mind. Mental institutions can keep you for as long as they like, until they deem you 'sane' again, it isn't like a prison at all...

And the competency or usefulness of mental institutions is often questionable..
..There was this interesting (yet ethically questionable) case study of a group of sociologists that pretended to be schizophrenic and were admitted to a mental institution, and spent a lot of time in there and made extensive notes about what actually went on. The fact that they were writing stuff down was supposedly evidence of insanity.
Well, they all got out (somehow) and they told the mental institution and they were all "oh we knew you weren't crazy". Then they told them that there was still one sociologist in there (lies, of course) and some time later the institution responded with "oh yes, we found him".

Not to mention that the rates of schizophrenia differ greatly across countries, and more conservative countries tend to have higher schizophrenia rates; perhaps conservatism makes you crazy, or that different cultures have different ideas about what 'crazy' is?
Which suggests that 'crazy' isn't universal at all, and that it is merely going against the norms and values of society.
Perhaps we're all crazy for not believing her and we'll all go to hell for refusing God! She could be the next Jesus! or something.

I think they should plead "guilty but not responsible due to mental illness"

it would make everyone shut up about the whole "it's not because [person A] is crazy that he's not guilty"
