Its official folks! The Tribes: Vengeance open beta is now available on fileplanet to anyone with an account (Gamespy Arcade accounts work as well) .

Unfortunately, I can't play it as my GPU overloads before the game even starts (minimum specs my ###)

Anyway, I've got to rely on the imput of other players until i have access to a computer fast enough to run it, so has anybody actually played the Beta yet? And if so, how is it?

I am actually enjoying it thus far. It's has minor differences from the previous games, but I was able to join up and get the hang of it by my first or second game. So if you have played Tribes in the past, you probably won't suck at the new one.

I've beeing playing this for the past week.

I'm loving it, much better then Tribes 2.

The game has jetpacks and skiis. That alone makes it a winner. I spend most of the game just skiing down hills, and trying to skii across water Bond-stylee.
Skiing is way too much fun. The whole flag thing is just a distraction.

Pros:
Looks nice, Much better sounds
'base rape' is not has nearly has big has a problem has it is in t2
no more endless swarm of fighters/bombers
vehicles have a good blance, so one isn't over or under powered
Blaster is better/weapons has a whole
The quick voice command systen is better

Cons:
Not much added in terms a gameplay
*some lag problems(network code needs a few tweaks)
Chatbox isn't has good has in T2 Or 1
only 4 differnt vehicles
*you can git stuck on things
you can only hold 3 guns even in heavy armor
sniper rifle has way to much of a delay betwen fire and hitting
I don't care for the new jump/jet/skie system
Finding a game to join isn't has nearly has good has in T2
the way to choose your amor/weapons was better in T2

Interestingly enough, I havn't found a person yet capible of running the beta yet. Of those here who can run it, what are the specs on your computers?

well Forsakahn my friend i do say that with in the next year we will all be lookin back at Tribes Vengance and laughing... but my dear god it's so beautiful

It can't get MUCH better than that without severely taxing the CPU and GPU. More the CPU than anything. The next step up is the kind of stuff we see in the latest FF title's CG.

I've been playing it for a few days and have found it pretty fun, but I have had a few crash problems and some problems with the lag getting bad a random times. And I aways get stuck when spawning at a vehical.

I'm not really impressed with the graphics. I still think UT2k4 onslaught is far superior, both in looks and gameplay.

when i get bad lag i know the game is going to crash...

that is the only time i ever get lag in the game is before it decides to crash

My only gripe is that the GUI is completely crap.

When you change a control key, it comes up with a box saying "YOU HAVE CHANGED BUTTONS" and I have to click OK.
Also, I really hate the server browser. I didn't understand the filter, and it has no "Remove locked servers" or "remove empty servers" button.

STOP TORMENTING ME!!!!!!!!!!! (ok, i asked for that).

Anyway, I officially can't find anyone that can run the game (though it can be noted that all the friends i have that have tried to run it so far are using 64mb ATi cards, so i might email Vivendi Universal (if not the game's actual developers) to inform them of the problem.


And for the record, YES, I HATE THE NEW GUI (sorry about the caps. i feel like ranting today :))

the more i play it the less i like it as a tribes game

from now on i'm thinking of it as a tribes inspired game and not a part of the actual tribes series
