I thought people who learn martial arts are suppose to be very reserved and disciplined. Meaning, they won't throw out one-liners or show off.

Nah, one-liners are great, especially if it is this one:

"If you want to taste the ground, feel free to attack."

I would show off if I knew karate, not by hurting people but if it was the kinda of karate with flips I would do them all the time. If someone was attacking me, I'd taunt them all the time though.

What do you do at the end of a play?

*kick in nuts*

BOW!

*shudders* Someone used that on me, I was trying to laugh at the joke part of it, but as all men know you can't think of anything but PAIN once you get kicked in the nuts.
Think while it's still legal.

He had already done the serious martial artist role but they obviously didn't know when to quit. So why not taunt them?

There is no "karate with flips" ... :p

I actually think that kind of sucks for him .. getting publicity like that when an instructor is your profession is somewhat dangerous, for various reasons .. and he's only 4th dan, wow, that suprised me ..

I think he should have just given them the money, but that's just me.

That has to be one of the stupidest things I've heard all month.

I remember a few months ago hearing about a similar story. It was a lot more Tarantino-esque; the people broke in the house and were going to rape the woman, but then the karate instructor did some serious harm to them.
It's not the side effects of cocaine, so then I'm thinking that it must be love

It takes some serious discipline to say anything sensible in a situation like that. If six guys have surrounded you and are possibly going to beat you until you are ready to be hospitalized (if not worse), I don't think witty comments are the first thing many of us could think of. That guy was pretty cool-headed.

Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

It's only money.
Is it really worth putting someone in hospital over?

Martial arts is self-defense, not money-defense.

Hell yeah! It's not like everyday you can kick someone's butt and say you did it in self-defense. Don't let a good oportunity pass you by because you never know when it'll came around again :D

That is self defense, I think so anyway. And do you honestly believe that if you gave them the money they would just let you go? I dont think so.
2004-09-10, 2:48 PM #25
The guys just want money. Why would they just beat you up for no reason?
But, then, and only then, should you defend yourself.

Money is not you and you are not money.

They should have ran away when they got the chance, but that old guy must feel like JACKIE CHAN.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I guess you're right, I'm just surprised that someone would actually use a one-liner in real life when being attacked by unknown people.
