So I'm bored... I figure "Hey, maybe I'll play some old AoE2 or something..." So I get my AoE2 Disc and install it, then I get my expansion disc and begin to install it...

75% : Error blah blah (cyclic redundancy check).

So I'm thinking... wtf, so I try to extract the files to a folder and install there, turns out, one file in a .CAB file is corrupt from what i guess is a scratch.... woopty f-in do...

This is mostly a rant but advice would be welcome too... *tries desperately to fix disc*

edit: *sigh*... and the only file that seems to be corrupted is a 54mb file.... what luck.

AOE2 is so cheap now anyway, go buy another copy.

Or better yet, get RoN.

Get one of those disk doctor things?

BTW it might not be a good idea to repair the archive... the chance it will be able to recover all the data in it with 100% accuracy (important to games) is slim to none.

In the future, use nero to back up your f***ing discs by making copies. If theres some sort of copy protection, rip the ISOs and then use the burn image feature in nero to burn the ISO image to a blank cd.

Problem solved.

Thiats the only reason why I still have JK after all these years... the original discs are in near-mint condition, and i've gone through about 3 or 4 copies to date. i use one until its too damaged to read, and then I use the originals to make another one.

also, why should he re-buy a game that he already owns to begin with? That's just f***ing stupid. Just get the manufacturer on the phone and ask them to send oyu a new copy. )

If I was still on Cable, Id just get someone who has the game to send me the CD. The CD wont copy at this point nor will it pull onto the hard drive. Basically I'm screwed, and I'm not about to put up with MS tech support (AKA America's Greatest IDIOTS) for 3 hours to get a copy of a game they havent reproduced for years.
