This isn't an editing question for a specific game, so I figured I'd post here.

My current problem is that I have a previously modeled map for a different game, and I'd like to obtain it's heightmap, as to edit it some.

I can't find ANYTHING online about Model to Heightmap conversion. The only think I can find is heightmap to model, of course.

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.

Open up the model, open up a text editor, and go through it manually vertex-by-vertex.

That wouldn't work... models aren't greyscale bitmaps, they're models...

actually... a lot of model formats ive used can be opened and the vertices changed in a text editor. most have a big list of groups of coordinates.

What modelling/editing package are you using?

If you are using 3d studio max, you can get the texporter plugin, which has the option of exporting a black and white hieghtmap.
