I just love the comparison they made in court.

i saw it on a french newspaper, but here's a rough summary:

"Basically, you can compare file sharing to a library. Many libraries put photocopiers in their establishments for their members to copy freely material they find interesting. Should they decide to make internet fileswapping illegal, it would also force a change in the way libraries work, according to NEW copyright laws."

It's legal for the person in Canada for you to download a file from them, but in your country your @$$ is grass. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Conversely, it is legal for me to download a song from you, but if you get caught by your country's authorities, you're pretty much screwed, whereas I get off scot-free. The system works.

Wow. The age of common sense is not over. Who would have thought?

And, I just had to point out:

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">As Napster downloads went up, CD sales went down, prompting a lawsuit from the Recording Industry Association of America</font>

This is not true. Music sales were up 4% at Napster's height, and dropped 40% after Napster was shut down. My much loved and revered Source: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,6354,00.asp

What's ironic is that this whole RIAA thing ended up with the creation of a bunch of sites that chare 99 cents for downloading - which is a much larger threat to the disc industry than file sharing could ever have been.

The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.
