I have to show up at the courthouse at 8:15 am tomorrow. Bah!! Bah I say! This is going to screw up my schooling and whatnot. Oh well. Hope it's something stupid that only lasts a day like traffic court. The funny thing is, I'm only 19.. they sure nabbed me quick.

I was called for Jury Duty back in July. Thankfully, I wasn't called to serve so I only had to spend only about an hour waiting in the waiting room for that one day. So far I've been called 3 times to Jury duty and all of them I never had to serve. Let's hope it stays that way.

I've had a few jury notices, but I always end up postponing them to when I'm not in school. Both times I got them in the summer, I got call days at the end of the week, so I never actually had to go in to court.

Why didn't you postpone?

I recieved a jury summons a few months ago. I showed up at the appointed time, and when the lawyer talked to me, I told him I am the son of minister, go to church regularly, believe in the death penalty, and hate lawyers. I didn't have to serve on the jury.

You're going to flee the country to escape jury duty.

Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

The closest thing I have got to participate in a court session was when they told me I'd have to come to testify in one case. But then a few days before the big day, they reached a bloody agreement, and the whole thing was cancelled. When the lady from the courthouse called me and told I don't need to come, I just told her how disappointed I am. She was pretty surprised to hear that...

Why's everybody getting so bent out of shape over jury duty? Have you *seen* TV? Court is awesome! It's all "objection!" and "your honor, my client did *not* sleep with the defendant!"

As for you Freelancer, make sure you put the guy away for a long time.

Laughing at my spelling herts my feelings. Well laughing is fine actully, but posting about it is not.

Jury duty is a good thing if you just sit around all day, and don't have bills to pay (read: high school student).

To everyone else, though, jury duty is bad. You have to take days, even weeks off of work, get paid something miserable (like $2.50 and hour). THis causes you to lose lots of time, as well as income. California minimum wage is $6.75, so even if you're bottom of the barrel, you're losing out on 4 bucks an hour. That's unacceptable to the typical college student wiht books to buy, car insurance, gasoline, and a myriad of other expenses.

Just say you're biased against everybody but yourself. :p

It makes you look like a prick, but it gets you out of jury duty.

Well I'm back. I was at the very end of the jury lineup, so there was noway in hell they even needed me. I just had to endure all the questioning from the stupid attorneys and I was free to go. However, it was really funny. It was like right from the movies. The defendent (trailor trash) had this scruffy, dime-a-dozen attorney, and representing the plaintiff (the state of Idaho), was a super-professional, super-hot young woman! Hehehe. :D I'm still on coall until Friday though.. here's hoping I don't have to miss anymore class.

When I got called for jury duty, I was so dopped up on codine from getting my widsom teeth out that I can hardly remember any of it. I think that probably wouldve been grounds for a dismissal, but they never even questioned me... the cases resolved themselves before they got to jury selection. I do remember wandering around downtown in a daze looking for the bus stop though. :)

I am under the impression that here in Canadia you get paid minimum wage (or more) for jury duty, but I might be on crack.
2004-09-15, 1:50 PM #25
i would like to do jury duty, i was a member of my high school mock trail team and we were in like the the top ten schools in the nation, anyway im only 15 so i can't be in a real jury.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

In new york state, its 40 dollars per day served.
2004-09-15, 2:24 PM #27
$40? That's not fair. It's something like $15 a day here in California. Stupid New York

I thought they have to pay a full days work (or something). But I never was a jury person.
