A thread about presidents and affairs (with women)

Let's say your president (prime minister, or whatever) is doing his job for your country very well. He improved and made the economy strong, created good policies and plans, established great foreign relations and agreements, lowered unemployment and inflation rates and so on. But no one is perfect. Due to the press and their hunger for stories, an affair between the president and another women is uncovered (along with evidence and stuff). He lies to the public, but the truth is too strong.

Now, if you could, would you impeach this guy on the basis of the affair and his lies about it (lying under oath)? Would you care, even if he did his job well, about what the president does in the bedroom? Thoughts?

[This isn't really about Bill Clinton.]

Only if a law was broken.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

What goes on in the bedroom is none of anyone's business. Impeaching someone because they have an affair is ridiculous. Especially if it's one of the best leaders your country has have had. (as was the case with Bill Clinton)

Any citizen, especially a president, is bound to the laws of the country. If a president lies under oath, and that is clearly breaking a law, then certainly that is grounds for prosecuting said president under the rules of law. If a president disagrees with a law, said president should work to get the law changed BEFORE breaking it.

The point is this: The law is the law, and we are bound to follow it. We're not bound because of some higher power, we're not bound because of some idea of morality equating to law, we are bound simply because if we break it and get caught, we must suffer the concequences. I don't agree with limiting me to 55mph on sunny days on straight roads with no other traffic, but guess what? If I speed and get caught, I will have to pay the price.

Very well said Brian.

My view is simply that what goes on in the bedroom, between two consenting adults, is no business of the state.

The law is the law, but i don't think they have to be impeached, what if Lincoln cheated? would we impeach him?
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

And that's the truth: while he did lie under oath, he lied about crap that the government had no business asking in the first place. So yes, he was wrong for breaking the law, but wtf does some judge have asking him that kind of stuff in the first place? It certainly wasn't monica pressing charges.

Lying under oath is lying under oath, but something like adultry isn't something that a leader needs to be removed from office for. That's why Clinton was impeached, but not removed from office

Okay, he lied under oath, but the point is: he shouldn't have been under oath in the first place. Does this country suddenly have laws against adultery? If so, why was only the president given a trial for said offense?

These questions are all very difficult for supporters of Clinton's impeachment to answer.

Whither it's a good public official or a bad one, what goes on in their bedroom is there business as long as it's legal.

Casting call for Javert.

Applicants needed to be unwavering in their support of the rule of law, even if the law is misused by political parties in order to try to tip the influence in the favor of the one not in office.
