Anyone here mod or edit Halo? Just curious really. Recently I went and downloaded the Halo Map Tools out of curiosity and started playing around with them after I discovered they worked with the demo. I've had quite a bit of fun so far. I haven't done anything impressive really, just noobish exploring, but I still have fun doing it. It actually surprised me to find out just how extensive the demo was in terms of what it contains.

The best thing I've done so far, is edit the Blood Gulch demo map file so I have the following:
  • Ghosts instead of Banshees, because Banshees in a level like Blood Gulch SUCK.
  • Increased the speed of the Ghost slightly. It didn't seem to be going the right speed when I imported it, so I uped it by .2 points.
  • Replaced the utterly WORHTLESS Rocket 'Hogs with the Tank. We all know the Tank totally owns the Rocket 'Hog.
  • Played with the Worthog's driver profile so I can now do something I've always wanted. Shoot the Cannon while I drive.
  • Changed the jump height of the player by .2 or .3 points, I forget. At any rate, high enough so you can jump clear over a Worthog now.

All of that is quite elementary to do, but still, I find it cool.
And I know some of that might seem stupid, but man, after playing the normal version of the level with a good friend of mine, and then my version... Mine is much better. It just seems much faster paced. The only things that would really make it better still, would be if I could find a way to disable the time limits and score limits.

So anyway, does anyone else here edit Halo in some way?

It's a pointless vehical for a level like that. The level is way to small for it, the ceiling height is too low for it, and people drive the damn thing like a groud vehical.

With that in mind, the ghost is good for a quick run and gun, ceiling height doesn't matter, and no one has to complain about being run over since it's a ground vehical to begin with.

I've used Halo Map Tools before. I did some wacky things, like making the Ghost shoot flamethrowers and making the grenade a flash bang grenade. I also added the Pelican to Death Island and played around with it too. Was pretty fun.

Get Halo Custom Edition and get the Halo Editing Kit so you can make custom levels now.

I probably will now. The only reason I haven't gotten Halo PC yet is because I've already played through the Xbox version 4 times (once for each difficulty). Plus my friend and I do a Slayer match at Blood Gulch every time he comes over. That match is hundreds of times more fun than playing online. Thus I've had little interest in getting the PC copy. But now that I've seen what the DEMO can do... I might go out this weekend and grab it. Last time I saw it the price was about 30 bucks I think.

I need to buy it too. I was hoping it'd drop to 20 bucks. Damn MS.

You can get virtually EVERYTHING cheaper on eBay. However, I'd rather spend a few extra bucks and get a copy that no one else has touched before.

And yeah, Microsoft sucks, but they aren't the only ones getting a cut of that. Gearbox gets some and so does Bungie. But Microsoft more than likely takes a larger portion.

I never really felt that the 50 dollar pirce tag it had initially was justified. Halo is a game that's been out for four years, the PC copy arrived on the scene last year. The Xbox copy was down to 20 by then I do believe. So basically, I think the PC version should have started out a lot cheaper.
