THINGS YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE TO BE A REPUBLICAN TODAY!

Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.

Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multinational corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.

The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.

If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.

Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy. Providing health care to all Americans is socialism.

HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense. A president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's cocaine conviction is none of our business.

Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness, and you need our prayers for your recovery.

You support states' rights, which means Attorney General John Ashcroft can tell states what local voter initiatives they have the right to adopt.

What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.

Got a chuckle or two outta me.

If you're going to argue that something's inaccurate on there or biased, then you may as well be talking to the wall. I didn't write it, I'm just passing it along.

Enjoy.

Boggleing how the liberal mind works. Certainly the one that came up with that. I can see how some would think it's funny, though.

That list is just one half of the reason I don't like liberals or conservatives. Especially the politicians.

it would have been better and more accurate had you said democrats instead of liberals. this liberal thinks the list is kinda stupid

It's close enough, really. In America, Liberal is almost synonymous with Democrat.

No, it absolutely is not. Leftist, perhaps, but not liberal.

If you actually realized there's quite a big difference between the two, you'd realize also that pointing it out is not being anal retentive. Josef Stalin and Pol Pot were leftists; were they also liberals?

In politics, left-wing, political left, or simply the left, are terms which refer (with no particular precision) to the segment of the political spectrum typically associated with any of several strains of socialism, social democracy, or liberalism (especially in the United States sense of the word), or with opposition to right-wing politics.

I rest my case.

Caricactures can be funny and all, but this one doesn't seem as concerned with being funny as it does with a political message.

Politics can't really be expressed in two dimensions.

The best way I've seen to represent politics was in the form of a graph, ala political compass, with 'economic' stance on the x axis and 'social' stance on the y axis, both axes ranging from -1 to 1. Stalin, as an authoritarian socialist, would be something like (-0.9,0.9). General Pinochet, as an authoritarian capitalist would be something like (0.9,0.8). Hitler, as an authoritarian pseduo-socialist, would be something like (-0.2,0.95).

You could probably add a few more dimensions to that, except then your head would explode.

Free: if you had clicked the little blue link titled 'liberalism' rather than resting your case, you would have read the meaning of the word changed drastically after the New Deal in the 30's and 40's. The original definition of 'liberal' is more akin to modern libertarianism than the Democratic party.

I, for one, reject the absurd redefinition of the word to include those people who favor government interference in economic and social matters. The party of Ted Kennedy may call itself liberal but it is not. It is the farthest thing from it in American politics.

Liberals don't favour government interference in social issues. Quite the opposite.

No it wasn't. No one uses the word "liberal" to include people who want more government intervention on social issues (abortion, gay marriage, drugs etc.).

Jeez, Sine, be more anal please. In America, ask anyone, liberal=democratic. Every one of my relatives, and most of my friends (that are involved in politics) agree there.

But back on topic--anyone else think the one about Jesus is just a bit too true? ;)

"democrat=liberal" is a stereotype. Not all democrats are liberal and not all liberals are democrats. However, I think most democrats are liberal(which doesn't mean everyone is a Ted Kennedy wannabe. There are varying degrees of liberalism).
