Due to rampant abuse on other forums as well as on a recent sticky in this forum, thread views have been completely disabled - we don't even track them anymore. Furthermore, ratings are gone because nobody used them and they made the forums look cluttered.

For all you abusive people: Refreshing a page 300,000 times can get us booted from this server. Next time people think it's funny to do that, I will get them banned from Massassi FOREVER. I'm not talking about a forum ban, I'm talking about blacklisting your IP from the entire massassi server, all our hosted sites, etc.

Well, I kinda miss the views because it showed if a thread was actually getting seen, but I definitely understand why they had to be removed.

Abusers suck.

So what exactly was the point of getting new forums if half the features are disabled and the other half have been removed?

Much easier to administer for one :p

Personally user titles and private messaging are the only new features I much care about and both are still around.

Okay, we had a choice: either we close down those areas of the forums that are causing abuse, or we shut down the entire forum and possibly the entire site because we get booted off the server.

Everyone asking why a feature was disabled for everyone because certain individuals abused it has obviously never been to the army.

You don't understand. They sucked up more traffic in a day than we usually get in a MONTH. If I were paying for this bandwidth, it could have cost me hundreds of dollars. There's no log of exactly who did it that I can get to immediately, it would take digging into the web server logs, which requires me to contact Recon Networks... in which case there will be SERIOUS CONCEQUENCES for whoever is doing it. I'm trying to be a nice guy by not taking it to that level right now, but I won't hesitate if something starts happening again.

Jaiph--I agree, but everyone was sorry afterwards that they did it. Brian--it may be keeping the site alive, but I think the reprimandation was enough as it was.

Well I have no quarrels - I admit that the "Page Views" feature was nice, but I certainly wouldn't class it as a necessity.... :o

As for the ratings stuff, I didn't get chance to use those - to be honest, I'm using the new board exactly how I used the old board but with the benefit that the new system is actually quite a bit quicker (and you notice these things when still on dial-up... ;) ). On the whole, I once again bow down to Jaiph's masterful words and agree entirely :D

Listen: There is no way for us to know exactly who was doing this. The forums don't keep logs of who looks at a thread, just how many times the thread has been looked at.

The feature is now off, get over it.

Some of you people have been comming here for YEARS now. You've lived without a thread views column for that long. I don't think you need the damned thing to survive. I hardly paid attention to it anyway.

Stop *****ing about a removed feature and just be glad there's forums to talk on.

Let's all go inflate some of the downloads counts! :p Only a compleate moron would do that.

I did a little bit of that in the thread with 300,000 views but I didn't run scripts or anything. Just f5 for 2 min. :o I stoped after I found out that it was bad to do that though. It was funny untill about 80,000 views, but after that I quit wondering what kind of a pathectic life would drive someone to sit there all day long doing that. :rolleyes:

UBB was extremely slow from an Admin point of view. These new forums are much easier for us to maintain and administrate effectively.

I think it's a good call. Even though I personally like thread ratings, they're only fun when they get used. Since this hasn't been happening, removing them is fine by me. Thread views I don't really care one way or another about.

Yeah I enjoy thread ratings on some other forums, but they weren't getting used here so no loss to me.

I find vB to be MUCH faster than InfoPOP or UBB or whatever it was we were using before....

The removed thingies were mainly useless (apart from pehaps ratings in the showcase forum, but I hardly go there so don't mind), especially the views imho.

Looks seckier now. OlD SkoOL = win.

And also custom titles are great. (thanks Jaiph :p)
