Anyone have The Sims 2?

Saw it at the store today, wondering if it's any good.

Probably wont buy it unless it's exceptional, but still curious...

A friend have played it non-stop for four days, skipping school and sleep; stopping only to eat sometimes.

I guess it's quite good.

It is actually quite a good game. I could not stand the first Sims game, even with it's seven expansion packs. However, out of the box, Sims 2 is a load of fun.

Well, I picked up a copy of the DVD edition of it to later on give to my friend Cara for her birthday. I then hung out with her that night and she found it in my car and took it . . . She hasn't had time to hang out since, so I imagine that its very addicting, much like the first.

Now I'm just pissed off cuase Cara is not going to appricate it as having been for her birthday present when her birthday comes around on Nov. 2

Replace "even with" with "because of" and you have my opinion on the matter.

Honestly that's the lamest reason I've ever heard to not buy a game. It doesn't even make sense.

With me, hype has an inverse relationship with interest. I couldn't care less about HL2, for instance. My lack of interest was caused by the severe amount of hype it has received.

It's arrogant for anyone to expect me to even consider purchasing one expansion, let alone seven. I understand the economics involved, but that doesn't warrant seven expansions. In my opinion, Maxis should have found some way to subsist other than dragging their good name through the mud. If you can't follow my reasoning, that's fine. I was just trying to explain it to you, since you asked.

Ah, I totally understand the hype thing. But about the dragging it through the mud, to me it doesn't look that way, as all the expansions (themes) were requested by the fans (Going on vacations, having pets). I don't think Maxis sold out or kept pushing on their success, instead listening to the fans and giving them what they want.

They put it out 2 days early where I work, and they moved Doom 3 to the bottom of the shelf to make room for about 40 copies of the sims. grr

Dude, if they were taking people's requests, why not make ONE game that actually added an EXPANSION, and not just stupid gimmicks to the game. I know a friend who paid over 300 dollars for those games, and he doesn't even like it any more. There's only so much you can do in real life that is fun in game-format, and about 3 of those things are in the sims(2).

I enjoy it, and that's saying something.

Although my Sim just came home from work to find his wife and baby dead and half the house on fire... :(

I didn't vote, because there was no "It's out? Cool. I might pick it up sometime" option. ;)

Have you ever realized that the Sims is basically kind of like playing with dolls?
2004-09-17, 7:24 PM #20
Yep. And have you ever realized that playing CoD, BF:1932, etc. is just like playing with little plastic green army men? (Hmm, I never got to play with those as a child... I feel so cheated.)

Ack, I guess I'm just sitting here defending the Sims because I like to root for the underdog (well that and I like the games), and around here any mention of the Sims brings an uproar of bashing.

I played the original for about 12 straight hours, and I got this weird notion that... you know, I could be doing all the things I'm doing in the game... in real life. So I did.

I played the game for a couple hours and got bored, never liked the sims thing.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

This game is easly two times better than the original, largely because all the tedious tasks of making your Sim go the toilet have been removed and are mostly done automatically.

How can you make your Sim go to another house in the neighborhood?

Alright.. You guys have convinced me, I was having trouble fighting it off.. but now I have to.

Im going to the mall right now.
