The award-winning Perspecta Spatial 3D System includes a 20-inch dome displaying full-color and -motion images that occupy a volume in space, giving users a 360° god's-eye view - without goggles. Perspecta is plug-and-play, rendering all movement from widely used open-standard 3D applications.

That's amazing. I want one.

Wait, are these true holograms, or just another cheap imitation?
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

100,000,000 voxel resolution sounds impressive but that's only about 480x480x480 res :p

If I remember correctly from when these things first came out, it has some sort of screen that rotates really fast and has different pixels projected on it depending on where it is in it's rotation. It's kind of cool, but I want an immersive 3d display wherein you can stick your hand in without it getting hit by a spinning screen.

In any case, there are few applications in which one of these would have any advantage over regular left eye/ right eye types of 3d monitors. The only advantage I can see is if you need more than one person to be able to view the 3d image simultaneously.

EDIT: Here's a link to Sharp's 3d monitor: http://www.sharpsystems.com/products/lcd_monitors/15-17_inch/ll-151-3d/

The key to that is the extra 480 at the end... :)

Don't want it. Try surfing the internet, or playing and FPS on a little 5in by 5 in 3D globe. Nice for looking at useless little 3D thingamabobs floating around but prety much usless for every day PC useage.

I agree, thats a funky little gimick and all, and it does look pretty cool, but I'll stidk with my monitor thanks.
You can't judge a book by it's file size

yea you have a point... but d00d could u imagine mapping on that thing with a better res? like lets say... 1600x1600x1600?

The future of monitors is the technology that uses CRT phosphors in a flat, thin panel. It has the brightness and viewing angle and response-time of a CRT, with the thickness of LCD and plasma, and the power usage of LCD. Coming soon to a desktop near you (I hope; this would be the end-all of 2D display technologies).

It's all about OLEDs, baby. See your cellphone screen? The one that doesn't need a backlight and has a 180*180 viewing angle? Yah, that's what I'm talking about.

Although carbon nanotube displays are quite nice too, I hear.
