I have a modification for old JK that I want to run.

I just want to pull everything out into the open, back in the day, I DID buy JK, so I know I'm legit in saying the fact that my CD busted, and when I ported the folder from my desktop to my laptop, I could not find the registry entries to put them into my laptop, and working between two different OS's was very hard for me, due to layout and my lack of understanding in windows XP.

Now, to the present.

I have JK on my machine, and I want to run a modification. So I go to get patch commander, and succeed in doing that. However, I noticed the install EXE looked a bit funky while running (It was not working cooperatively with my windows XP skin, it looked strange, as if you could see the classic style borders semi-super imposed on the skin.). Needless to say, the install actually went through fine, but then I tried to run the program. It gave me a memory fault at location FFFFFF. It gave me a similar fault at the same location when I tried to do ANYTHING in the program.

So then, I tried using compatability, figuring from doccumentation that the delphi code was not having happy fun times with the XP os. I run the program again, a memory fault in a new location, but it shows me that progress had occured because it told me something I knew; it could not find the JK registry entries (When I ran it origionally on this OS, it didnt even mention that.)

What I need to know, is there SOME way I can circumvent PC and run this mod on my copy of JK using command lines, something? Anything? Please help. Thanks a bunch.

Did you try contacting the author of the mod? They might know an alternative way of running it. Just a thought, since I'm not the most technical person here at Massassi.

I'm not sure exactly what your problem is, but if I read your post right, its that you've got JK installed, but you copied the installation from another machine, so its not listed in the registry. And you no longer have the JK cds so you cant reinstall.

What I would suggest is just simply picking up a new copy of JK, it costs about 5 bucks these days. I think Electronic Boutique usually has it in stock in their stores.

That is a good idea, but unfortunatly, I have a feeling that PC still will not work.

When I ran it without compatability, I got constant errors from memory address FFFFFFFF, and when I tried to do anything with it, it gave me a similar error with no change to the program (meaning I could not even load patches.)

Its possible that it could work, but I also must wonder if I want to kill five dollars. I dont have a job, and to spend it on JK when I have it seems silly. I was asking because I remember there being a command-line method to running patches, and I was hopeing someone knew. Thanks for replying, though!

Livid> Yes, I know the maker personally and spoke with him in AIM to get it. He unfortunately didnt know of any other methods of getting it into the game.

I guess it wouldn't be illegal to get a copy of it from someone, seeing as you did own it. You would need to get something in the registry for it to run, and by the sounds of it that's hat you're missing. Either just borrow and copy the CDs, or download from somewhere. Otherwise, I don't think there's anything you can do.

um why not just export the registry keys from the computer you have it on already?

the keys you need are
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\LucasArts Entertainment Company\JediKnight\v1.0

and so you can play online:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectPlay\Applications\Jedi Knight 1.0

of course if you want to install it in a different DIR you'll need to change some of the values.

Alright, excellent. It now functions as well as possible (Except JK still likes to crash when I run any mod, but its better then not being able to load anything at all.)

I'd like to thank everyone on the forums who helped me out here. And I'd like to especially thank Checksum, a person who was banned from these forums and a good friend of mine over AIM, who helped me by showing me the proper Registry entries (My desktop had failed to function- another adventure for later =/)

Thanks again!

The problem is that its illegal for the other person to be sharing the game in the first place, so even if you are only downloading a copy of a game you already own, you're still an accessory to an illegal activity.
