IS there anywhere I can get a word processing program for free?

You deleted your Word Processing program or something? I thought any OS comes with a free word processing program.

My copy of XP didn't, but I had an old Word 2000 disc, so it wasn't a big deal.

MS should make MSWord free, or at least an earlier version free.
My teachers complain if our work is not in Word format

Not technically a word processor, but it's actually a better way of writing documents. You end up focusing on the text you're writing, and the program takes care of how it looks on the page.

Bah. I currently use the old 2000 Word version at home... I'm seriously of the opinion that Microsoft should completely open up their Office document formats, and allow any company to make any software they want to edit MS's .DOC, .XLS, .PPP, and the like. That way, Microsoft would also look better, as they would be competing on the merit of their product itself, not on the dominance their proprietary format gives them.

I currently am running XP office with the newest service pack on my computer. I don't have any complaints about the word processor or office for that matter, well everything but the office assistants.

Aye, that's what we'd all like currently, but there's always the question of price, particularly when you've built your own system from nothing (which doesn't come with the handy very-low-priced OEM software attached to it). I'm merely running Office 2000 because that's the version I had for my computer, and I transferred it from my old one to the new Athlon64 machine I build during the summer.
