Computer Woes

It all started last week, early morning on a Saturday.....

Something was up with the motherboard, so I said to myself, "Hey, I'll flash the mobo to the new version". So, I did....computer restarts, nothing happens. So, I turn off the computer, and start it up and I see that all the LEDs, fans, hard drives, are spinning, but, nothing is appearing on the monitor. So I'm a bit freaked out, so I just try clearing the CMOS but that does nothing. Yay, so now my computer is officially dead. And at this time, I just thought it was a bad BIOS Flash.

So, I sent my BIOS in to get reprogrammed, and I waited 4 long days, and finally got it yesterday. So I install everything, new BIOS, did some rearranging in my case. Start it up, nothing happens. Switch monitors, try again, nothing happens. So, at this point I thought it was my video card. So I swap it with my brothers GF3 Ti200, same damn thing. Great, my mobo is dead.

So, now I have to get a new motherboard, and I found a good one. So, I guess this isn't too unfortunte, since I won't be paying for it, heh. But, still, I liked my A7N8X Deluxe, but hopefully, this DFI NF2 Ultra Infinity will do great things.

The worst part is, is that the night before I had the first problems was the night where I was planning on getting a new monitor, also something that I didn't have to pay for.(My mother suggested to me that I shoudl get a LCD monitor to save all the space in my room. I jokingly said give me the money, and I would, but then she said that she would even pay for it. So for the past few weeks, I've been cracking my Dad down to get it, and he was just on the brink, when this happened). It would be this glorious 17" Widescreen HDTV capable Sharp monitor, that is just so sexy. Unfortunatly, this puts that into a setback, so the mobo is first priority. Also another bad t hing is that I got Splinter cell Pandora Tommorw and Vietnam the night before the Flash, ,and I haven't gotten to play either of them.

flashing the mobo --- what does that mean?

It doesn't involve a dirty rain coat, does it? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

You flash the bios...well...it gets complicated unless you know what you're doing. I, for one, don't.

I assume you did check the processor and ram also? Because those things can cause it to halt on bootup too.

I had a problem like that....kind of.

My comp would turn on for about 2 seconds than turn off right away. It turned out I had shorted out something on my motherboard from Overclocking my video card. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/redface.gif] Fry's gave me a new one for free because of warranty. I hooked it all up and.....

Nothing, my harddrive had died. I bought a new 250gb UATA133 for $160 though. I was a pain to have to start over.
