Going to Washington D.C.
2004-04-02, 6:31 PM #1
As you might have guessed from the topic, I'm going to spend a week in Washington, D.C. Leaving Saturday. Anybody live near there who knows some fun stuff to do there? I know the Smithsonian and monuments and stuff are a must, but beyond that I have no clue.

A bunch of people from my school are up there this weekend, but I have no idea what they will be doing. I went when I was too young to really appreciate it, but I know we did the Smithsonian stuff.

Anyways, now that I feel guilty for semi-derailing the thread... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/redface.gif]

On a serious note, in uh... I think it was 7th grade... our class went to Washington DC. We did all the tourist stuff- saw the white house (didn' get to go inside though), the monuments, the Smithsonian, etc... if I could go back on my own, though, and do whatever I wanted, I'd probably spend like the entire time at the Smithsonian [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Do all of the Smithsonians if you can. Everything else is basically a drag, if you ask me.

Insert "Mr. Thrawn goes to Washington" joke here.

The air and space museum rocks!

If you don't mind the somber mood, the Holocaust museum there is very well done.

The JFK Center is bad *** ...but if you're not seeing anything there, might be pointless.

Lots to do in DC I thought...*Lived in VA 4 times so I was always right near it*

Don't forget to visit the new Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near Dulles Airport. They have, among other displays, the space shuttle Enterprise, and the Enola Gay.

Living in the D.C. area, one thing you have to be prepared for is the traffic. Bring a book to read... trust me.

For sight-seeing, it's best to walk around instead of driving, so be prepared to walk a lot. Also, visit the Holocaust museum, which I did a couple weeks ago. It's a life changing experience that everyone should know about.

A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

Firefox, I said for the week because that's how long Thrawn is going to be there. One could of course spend a very long time otherwise if he could stay an indefinate period of time.
