So how many of you are looking seriously at editing far cry?

I just got it and I'm absolutely loving it.

I just finished the demo about 2 mins ago, i liked it, but the demo has alot of unstability... i couldnt even play it with all details maxed because it wouldnt render certain things. I hear the full game is much more stable. (btw i have a 9800pro and a gig of ram, so its not my comp)

Is the full game worth it? and hows the editing look? I mainly like to make levels but I dont like layouts such as the JO/JA editors... I just dont understand them, nor the tutorials for them. Also depends on the game though, FarCry seems alot better than either JO or JA.

You might want to google for the CryEdit manual in pdf form.

The single player game is terrific, i have yet to try the mp, but i was in the beta, and i loved it then, so...

I have a 9800pro and gig of ram...those errors you had might be from not having AA/AF on "application controlled" in the ATI control panel. ATI cards can't do AA/AF in the demo without graphical issues. The full version works fine with both though.

I am in love with the Sandbox editor for FarCry. It is absolutely wonderful. Your computer would run it well too...with similar specs I can open any of the original levels quickly in the editor and move around them with little lag.

The -only- even slight negative editing FC is that it's not like editing a Q3 brush engine.....the buildings, etc are put together out of lots of little models made with a modeller. Some see this as a very bad thing, but really I just see it as merely having to learn something new.

I've been tinkering around with the editor, and while my computer can run the game fine, I'm not sure if I'll be able to really turn out anything serious with the editor because my computer runs it so slowly. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

The editor seem complicated at first, but once you get used to it, its awesome. Jeff is right though, there is no brushes at all- everything is done solely with terrain and prefabs/models. Might be a bit confusing for someone who is used to brush editing.

I'm really digging the game, and I'm only on the 6th level - it's challenging, but I enjoy being forced to come up with new strategies. The multiplayer is pretty cool, too; I've played a few hours of Assault, and the time flies by.

Haven't had a chance to play around with the editor yet, but it looks amazing and once I finish the SP game I'll dive right in. Maybe by then Crytek will have the SDK released and we will be able to build our own prefabs in 3d progs..

Far Cry's incredible editing manual (7.6MB)
ftp://ftp.ubi.com/uk/farcry/sandbox/FC_Editor_Manual.zip

I think I'll wait for the Half-Life 2 SDK. In the meantime, I'm going to try out the Softimage Half-Life 2 modeller.

im trying to make a HAHA gotcha trap level

consiting of piles of barrles ready to be broken loose and roll down a chanel filled with monkets and mercs

i wanna try to make a pike of exploded tanks stacked with a couple mercs on top

or some fun obstickle courses like hang glide down a corridor filled with chain guns.

Some other ideas are

Friendly helicopters and friendly trigens that follow you around and masacre mercs [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

or just load a platou filled with 100s of trigens and a low drawbrigde spanning it [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
