I've just got back from Army Cadet Camp

Yup, and it was the toughest three days of my life, yet incredible fun now that I look back on it. Sentry duties, getting a rifle as my own from the first moment, living rough and wild, decent rations and buggering about with all sorts of army techniques like personal camo, tent making, and, of course, attacks, ambushes and other such fun stuff. There's nothing like sitting atop a knoll at ten at night firing like there's no tomorrow into the bushes with blanks, or running up a field in formation doing something fairly similar. It was awesome!

I hear one of the hardest things about boot camp is trying not to laugh at the drill sergeants. Someone on the SA forums was talking about their experiences at boot camp, specifically the day they had to take drug tests. Some guy started to take his pants off to pee into the cup before the drill sergeant told them to, and the sergeant started yelling at the guy, "PUT YER PANTS BACK ON!!!!! WHAT DO YOU THINK THIS IS, A GOD-DAMN NUDIST COLONY?!?!?"

well i went to cadets. the difference it hought was, they're just as tough but they're not jerks. we had drills and what not adn they pushed you toyour limit to do them but if you wanted to stop something you could anytime. bootcamp you have little choice. and we got fed really well, except wehn we played ctf games

Ok, let me explain.

In the UK we have Cadet organisations. Air, Sea and Army, and sometimes we have Combined Cadet Forces, where you do more than one. Ours is such a force, but focusses on army today.

What makes ours special is that its not a community thing but in fact a thing in school that you can join. Hence we are all 13-18, bar the teachers that belong to the Territorial (Temporary) Army who run it and the regular soldiers who visit from time to time.

So I'm not training to join the army at all, it's a free time thing where you can learn skills.
