I know this is kinda early, but I want some tips on building my halloween costume. I wanna go as Ash from the evil dead series, so I need to have a chainsaw that can go on my hand. I cant use a real one hollowed out due to school policy. So any ideas how I could make this?

chainsaw doesn't seem like the problem..its the boomstick i'm worried about

Boomstick is nothing, the chainsaw is what made Ash famous.

My woodshop class has some old 3/4 plywood I can take for free, so I'll probably use that. A big no on the boomstick though, school policy. Now I need to figure out how to clamp it to my hand.

They used to make these awesome toy chainsaws when I was younger. Check out Wal-Mart or something. I'm willing to bet they still make em.

Stop by K-Mart and get a toy Chainsaw, a Shotgun with a shoulder holster, and some cardboard tubing. Make sure the tubing fits over your fist and wrist, and make sure the shotgun looks right and isnt a lame wild west one or anything. You may be up for some spray paitning, most toy chainsaws come in bright colours these days. You may want to paint it regardless to add some blood splatters.

Attach the cardboard tubing to your correctly coloured chainsaw, and check that you can hold it with your hand inside the tubing. Get an old blue/grey shirt and some tan pants or jeans, rip them up a little roll them round in some dirt, then add some fake blood if you wish.

Put everything on, tuck the cardboard tubing under your sleeve (right hand, if you want to be authentic), and sling the shotgun in holster over your left shoulder. Oh, and dont forget to smile

I think my final decision is making it from scracth with wood, its more authentic and such. Thoug the one problem would be the starter. Like how when you pull it out it goes back in. Any ideas of how to set this up?

see if you can install some time of spool with a spring or something into your "chainsaw"

If you get a toy one, it'll have the starter. You could just paint it to make it look cooler.

As for making one out of wood and attaching it to your hand, all you really need is a hadle of some sort inside the main box

My friend did that last year...he used a toy chainsaw. It was actually pretty cool for a toy...

Just go as Ash from the first movie. All you need is some retro clothing and one eyebrow. No assembly required.

If the school won't let him have a Chainsaw, whats the chance of a Toy Shotgun?

Im gonna go check the schools reserve of scrap wood today, I think I'll make this my blog sorta for the progress.

Make something inside the chainsaw for you to just grab onto, a handle or whatever and grip it all day.

Well that is frigging stupid. When I was in HS, I dressed as a Fireman and they said I could bring a fake axe to school.

I guess cause its wood it can be a "clubbed" weapon.

Maybe go as Ash and just not bring the chainsaw and duct tape your hand.

That's lame. Kids shouldn't be allowed to bring pencils to school, o wear shoes with laces, or carry books around. You could use them as weapons

Me and some other guy are going to go bug the administration to see if theyll be lenient since it is halloween, if not, i will get a petition going around the school:p But yeah, maybe even get boomsticks alowed^_^
