Only thing that bothered me...

I keep seeing green/red boxes around tie fighters/other ships. at least 4 or more different times in ANH... i thought they got rid of this in the SE, because i havent seen that since i used to have the first versions, but even if they didnt... you'd think they would have taken those out? i mean they move pretty fast, so it wouldnt be horribly impossible to even take it out frame by frame (considering they even did lighsabers frame by frame (back in the 70s even!)) and it would be especially easy because the background is black...

i just thought that was odd.

I've noticed it in all the versions, so yeah.

Supposedly, ILM did not have enough time to clean that up. They said they'll try to clean it up for future versions [The Super Duper Amazing Special And Not In The Down Syndrome Way With All 6 Movies Plus Some Bonus Stuff And Hopefully The Deleted Scenes Everyone Has Been Wanting To See For Some Time Yet Should Have Been In The Current DVDs Edition]

Yeah that bothered me too, at first I thought it was just the targeting computer (orange squares), but then I noticed the green squares.

Guys, guys, guys...if they fixed all of the obvious things that were wrong with the original movies, AND included the deleted scenes...how would they sell you the same damn movie 500 more times?

It's called a trash matte. Basically, when the ships were matted in with the background, it was simpler to just do a rough cut out, and place it in then to very tediously follow the shape of the object being cut. While in a movie theater, those things are virtually always invisible, but when they transfer over to VHS or DVD, and you watch it at home, they become apparent very quickly.

I'd be hard pressed to explain why they show up in one place and not the other. It's been awhile since I had to know that. And yes, I did HAVE to know that at one point last year.

.

Touche. We all know they're coming out with at least two more DVD box sets...

And we all know that, being the consumer whores we are, we're going to buy all three box sets.

I just watched ANH and I saw that too, along with some... what looked like dust coming off Vader's and Obi's sabers in their duel. That was probably in the old versions but I never saw it before.

Dust doesn't surprise me. They initially used sticks that had a reflective material similar to what was used on Movie Screens. When filmed, light was reflected off of them, giving them a glow, then that glow was colored. When the sabers hit each other, some of that coating probably came off.

Eh? I never noticed the matte boxes. Whatever. These are still the best versions of the Star Wars Trilogy if you ask me.

The only thing that bothered me was how fake jabba looked.

Everyone tells me I'm just being an idiot, and that I have no right to complain because it's Lucas' movie, but I really could deal with everything, except changing Boba Fett's voice.

I like Temura Morrison, but for me he just doesn't pull off Boba Fett. Boba's voice defined him, and I think it was far better before.

Yes. They should have kept the special edition Jabba. This one looked horrible.

Even the SE Jabba was no match for the RotJ Jabba. That Jabba > *.

The only thing I'm displeased with is this inconsistency between the sabers throughout all three films. Even the O-OT wasn't as bad. However, the picture quality makes up a great deal for it and I'm not mad that I bought the set.

*Confirmed*

3 Men in a fat monster suit cannot be simulated by some cgi trickery. Not yet anyways. Maybe lucas should have waited another 20 years to try that one.

What makes you think he won't?

I just watched ANH and yes, Jabba was rather crappy. they should have used TPM jabba, since he looked most like the RotJ jabba imo.

The only thing that really looked wrong was lukes green saber in the falcon. :-\ It diddnt make much sense.. the sabers weren't great at all. Sometimes black lines appeared in the cores while the sabers were close to the camera. I probably only noticed this because i was watching it on my computer screen though.

Other than that, this is definatly the best version of the trilogy, well worth the £30 for picture quality alone.

It was TPM model of Jabba. Just re-colored.

Yeah... that'd definately be your opinion. I personally find the TPM Jabba, the SE Jabba, and the recolored/retextured/rebumpmapped Jabba on the DVD to look horrid. The TPM one kinda fits in with his surrounding in TPM so he doesn't look terribly bad, but to sitck him elsewhere... he looks awful.

well the sabers were old and probably had gotten degraded over time. Vader probably fixed his after the battle with obi wan and luke fixed his between ANH and ESB.

That's looking at it from the stand point of the movies. Looking at it from the stand point of real life, one would find that if those comments hold true, they did a shoddy job remastering the sabers.

Personally, I haven't seen any of that. I'd look it up now, but I've moved my set to another room and I can't be arsed to get it.
