Homework thread!

Can anyone help me? I need to find out how to synthesize an Alkyne. For example: To synthesize and Alkene you dehydrate an Alcohol, to get an Alkyne, you do what to what?

Take a vicinal dihalide (an alkane with two halides, cis) and do two eliminations on it.

There are other ways, but it seems like you can do it in any way, so there.

What class is this?

Grade 12 University level Chemistry.

Just an FYI: never, ever, EVER, attempt a controlled oxidation of 2-propanol with a bromine pool pellet... not unless you want a bunch of highly toxic bromine vapour.

Man, I did organic chemistry in French, the terms are not exactly the same :p Alkyne is C=C?

C and a triple bond.

Ok, in French we call them "alcyne" with a soft "c," and "yne" pronounced as "in," like "I'm in the house."

You guys are way farther than my class in organic chemistry.

Also, wenn du ein "Alkal" und eine Base vermischt entsteht eine neutrale Lösung.:p

Yeah, we're using the same textbook but we're almost done Unit 5. We're doing Unit 1 as an independent study and we have tests periodically on it.

I'm actually typing out one of the thermochemistry labs right now. I hate it.
