Rit is slowly transfering to microsoft exechange for its e-mail system, and i hate it its a piece of steaming crap, basically to use or read or do anything w/ ur e-mail you have to be online and its all stored on the server, well that's an nice concert for mobiable computers but still comeon!

then outlook is an steaming piece of crap, seriously this is what happened.

okay so i went to setup an friend e-mail account in which she "upgraded" to ms exechange, most people just use pop/imap and that works just fine. anyway she upgraded cos her boyfriend said it was better, i myself say bs! because most of these guys they only check e-mail on their computer and that's about it.

anyway what happened is okay i have this webpage w/ all the information i need to get signed in though microsoft exechange on her outlook. so i start up outlook then it ask me for a few basic information which i entered in the "wizard" then i clicked finished then it said it cannot log into the server, well allright, no problem i'll fix it in a second, then it asked do u want to show the local disk, i'm like fine. then ii searched all over and coulnd't find anywhere to change account information or whatever, okay so i exit and re open it up and tried to log in, failed said no to load local disk, then it pop up saying, ms outlook is shutting down, i'm like WTF?!

how in nine's hell am i suposed to finish setting up her account on outlook if i can't even reach that pannel, and to reach that pannel it has to log in to the server, but problem is the server got some odd options not covered in the wizard, thus it fails upon login and then it will exit so there's no way to get in unleast it magicaly works and connect to the server, i'm like jesus wtf is this ****, so i uninstalled it, did registery cleaning and confugation cleaning and reinstalled outlook, but noooo! it still failed, it booted up then pop up an error then pop up another dialog box saying its shuting down now.

As someone who has worked in an environment where an Exchange server is running (CSU San Marcos), I can tell you just how advantageous working with it is. For me the setup was easy. It was done really quick like. Connected to AIRMAIL (the server name) and added my needed inboxes. Communicating with needed people was quick.

You just had a bad experience in setup.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

...and that's easier than connecting to a normal e-mail system how?

You put in your POP3/IMAP server and your SMTP server. You put in your login name/password. Done.

And you have the advantage of using ANY mail client you want. With exchange you can either use Outlook, or if you're under Linux then I believe Evolution has Exchange support. As far as I'm aware, they're the only clients that can talk to the exchange server.

Ok. Let us use CSUSM as an example.

A conglomeration of different e-mail clients would be a nightmare for the IT guys trying to keep 7K+ students AND the faculty/staff all running fine technological wise. Now students and fac/staff are not forced to use Outlook, but many many do anyway. And with pratically everyone using Outlook it is easy to troubleshoot problems. See if some professor using some off-the-bat e-mail client to get their e-mail address, I have to research his e-mail client, figure out how it works, then help him troubleshoot if possible. With everyone using Outlook, I can better assist and diagnose the problem because I'm more knowledged in Outlook.

Other thing, should it be a problem on the Exchange server or with his particular account, I can just ring up the bloke in charge of maintaining that server. 8/10 we get the problem fixed no problem. With said professor's "off-the-bat" e-mail cleint, we cannot be sure if it is his client or the server causing muck-ups.

I do not know the particulars of the Exchange server. I don't know the goods and the bads to it. I'm sure I can call up the aformentioned guy and ask him about it. All I know is that for the past year and change working for IITS (school's IT department) and using Outlook/Exchange I've had little problems with it. And to my knowledge no one has complained a bit.

I just have my RIT email forwarded to my gmail account. Its a lot easier than trying to mess around with exchange or the old vax email/html webmail interface.

sorry for no replying for a while, had to deal w/ some of the dorm drama w/ my friends, and some of them are trying to backstab and destroy my relationship w/ others so i'm tired of that bs. but that's other news lol.

personaly i forward my rit e-mail to my isp e-mail and it works just fine for me, i don't see what's wrong w/ people just forwarding their e-mail to whatever isp or e-mail that they use, most kid around here don't use rit e-mail at all they just forward it to their yahoo, hotmail, msn, gmail accounts. and i only know a few who actualy use their rit e-mail directly.

as of the advange of ms exechange, how the hell am i suposed to take advange of it if the client is flat out broken.

okay i install outlook, then i begun to setup this person's e-mail setting, but there are a few odd setting that i need to change but isn't in the wizard, so i fill in the wizard as good as i can, then it complains it can't connect to the server, and i'm like duh i need to fix some setting, then it shuts down, so i'm like wtf, restarts it, does the same, and if i choice to load up local directory it will load up the harddrive but have no option or anything, so i can't change ****, so i uninstalled, wiped all thing related w/ outlook and reinstalled, same ****.

so i'm curious how the hell am i suposed to set up my friend's e-mail account to take advange of exechange if it dosen't even f***ing work in the first place. (talking bout outlook)

I do that too, I have my school address forwarded to Gmail. Although student e-mail is NOT on an Exchange server, but the interface SUCKS.

rit webmail system is horriable, its slower than hell and i would say 90% of the student here never delete their old message, some of them have messages way back into the 2000's and i'm like omg, don't u guys ever delete it.

and theyre all wondering why its slower than hell.
