Cheap Web hosting...
2004-09-27, 7:49 PM #1
So my cousin is getting married, and has decided he wants a website for the event so he can post all the relevant information there, pictures, maps, events, schedules…

Being the official family geek (and by extension the official tech support b****) I have been asked to prepare this website. Well the actual web part of it will be easy, but I need a host. Preferably something incredibly cheap that wont jump out as being tacky (like having a Tripod popup, or Geocities in the URL). Obviously I don’t need a terribly long lease on the domain, and neither bandwidth nor storage will have steep requirements. So does anyone know of a good cheap basic web hosting company they can recommend?

Think while it's still legal.

www.out-post.net has cheap domain offerings. You can get a custom package with very small bandwith and space if you talk with him (You don't have to get the base packages).

Domain names however usually only go for a year minimum.

www.godaddy.com is good for domain names, should you want to invest in one, although you might not for such a short-term site... but it'd be good to keep it in mind for other uses in the future. :p Low price and their control panel has a good array of free functions (like free parking should you need it, and some other gizmos I'll never need or use).

As for webhosting, host yourself. ;) Might be too much to set up for a quickie site (especially if you don't leave your comp on all the time, can't host a website for whatever reason, or if you need to set up PHP and/or MySQL or some other stuff with it too.)

I would love to host it myself, but for two facts... One I have been to lazy to finish my leaning of Unix, and would feel guilty running apache on anything else when i have this beautiful sparq station sitting right next to me. and Two, the fact that my ISP is about a reliable as one of Stan’s deal of the day used cars. Ill look at these other hosts... looks very promising...
