It means someone used photoshop.

Seriously, it doesn't even look like a cover PC Gamer would do. :\

I wont beleive it until it appears on the official site or something similar, but it is possible. The first release candidate was delivered to Vivendi a while ago, maybe they got their hands on that.

Belgian magazine, they finished the game, will be reviewed including 40 unique screenshots.

It is done.

I saw this on www.halflife2.net yesterday. They are a pretty reliable source for news. However they claim that subscribers will be recieving the december issue (the hl2 review one) this coming week. That doesnt make too much sense to me. Anyway, I was on #pcgamer last night on gamesurge and there was alot of discussion about this issue, and of course there were no staff members in there to clear anything up.

Planet Half life got ahold of Dan Morris, the EIC of PCGamer, and he confirmed it.

Start cheering. It's done.

Venge, I think we're kind of beyond hoping. This is more or less official. PCG would not be running a review of it in the upcoming issue if the game were not finished.

Found this over at www.halflife2.net

Today I was able to get a World Exclusive Interview with the man that reviewed Half-Life 2 first, Senior Editor Chuck Osborn from PCGamer. So let’s just get straight to it.

Icarus: What was your reaction when you found out you would be the first to review Half-Life 2?
Chuck Osborn: It was a mixture of excitement and trepidation, because of the responsibility of being the first one to review it.

Icarus: Was Half-Life 2 what you expected?
Chuck Osborn: More

Icarus: Was it worth the wait?
Chuck Osborn: Absolutely

Icarus: How long is the review?
Chuck Osborn: Nine pages, plus we have a four page story telling you what you need to know about running Half-Life 2 on your system.

Icarus: Did it seem dated?
Chuck Osborn: Not at all.

Icarus: Are there any spoilers in the review?
Chuck Osborn: There are some mild spoilers, because you can’t review it without giving away something. I say very clearly when to stop reading if you don’t want to know anything. If you read the entire review, there are a lot of surprises I don’t talk about, because I want you to be surprised. This is not a spoiler review.

Icarus: Does it have multiplayer, if so what are they?
Chuck Osborn: Counter-Strike Source is the multiplayer.

Icarus: Only CS:S, no Deathmatch?
Chuck Osborn: Only CS:S

Icarus: Has it (CS:S) changed any from Beta?
Chuck Osborn: It’s what they say it’s going to be, but with a few surprises

Icarus: Who did you get to play it with?
Chuck Osborn: Valve as well as playing in within our own offices

Icarus: Did you get to play HL Source?
Chuck Osborn: Yes.

Icarus: Can you tell me anything about HL:Source?
Chuck Osborn: Nope

Icarus: Is it (HL:S) included in the review?
Chuck Osborn: Yes, it's discussed in a sidebar along with a few screenshots.

Icarus: Anything you want to say the users before I go?
Chuck Osborn: I'm just glad I don't have to keep my playing Half-Life 2 a secret anymore! It was killing me. Trust me...you won't be disappointed.

... how is that fanboyish? he's not saying "OMG HL2 = BEST GAME EVER", he simply said it was better than he expected. That != fanboyism.
Moo.

I have my doubts over HL2 :p

And "OMG BEST GAME EVER" doesn't make you a fanboy.

WTF? I hate CS. HLDM > CS.

2004-09-29, 8:39 AM #18
There are hundreds of mods being made for HL2, one of them has to be HLDM. In fact, I think there is one.

... What? You make no sense. How, then, was the interview fanboyish?

*God, seriously, this is getting ridiculous. Someone says "i like shoes" and suddenly he's labeled as a shoe fanboy.

*Edit: that part wasn't directed specifically at you (rather, just my frustration with people in general). Just thought I should clear that up, didn't want you to think I was trying to start a flame war or something

Does Half-Life: Source include Opposing Force and Blue Shift?

I will contribute to this thread by stating that I am not in the least bit excited. I bought the original Half-Life just so I could get a CD key to play Counter-Strike. I did try playing though. Didn't care for it.

Dude, iirc, the TFC2 mod for HL2 is coming out also.

BTW--for those who say HL:DM is better than CS, you're on crack. CS is a FAR superior mod. The community is crap, though.

CS NEVER grabbed me. Even when I played it over a Lan recently with a bunch of friends. We ended up playing Firearms for a bit, then went and played Team Fortress, which was infinately more fun.

The thing is, CS:S is the same gameplay as CS. The same game we've had for what, four years now? HL2 DM would be something relatively new and exciting, even if it sucked.
Moo.
2004-09-29, 6:02 PM #27
CS:S is a waaaay more refined CS. The guns are much more effective, everything works much better, grenades don't hurt you through walls and boxes, flashbangs are much more realistic, they improved a lot of guns, I mean it's just...almost a different game. The only thing that's the same is the core gameplay, really. Other than that, it's quite a breath of fresh air.

I dunno if anyone has mentioned it:

CS:S is released next week for people who preordered hl2 over steam.

HL2 preload 5 was tonight. The download started at 93% and is at 98.5% for me right now.
So hl2 should be ready soon unless VU is stupid.

Yeah, I've played it. It's still CS, and we've still had CS for four years. CS:S is cool, sure, but not as HL2's MP.

Funny, I checked Half Life 2 this morning at steam out of sheer boredom, and to my surprise, it started downloading another segment while I was relatively certain that I had all the latest released segments...
The answer is maybe.
