Read, discuss, complain, cry about how a network executive will now rape your childhood . . . .

Personaly I'm looking forward to it, especially becuase of one of the names that might end up being attached to the series.

This is VERY good news.

Who will play Captain Jean Picard?

I think it can be good. I wonder what's the setting of the show though. Will it take place during the original trilogy?
2004-09-29, 5:29 PM #8
This should be interesting since TV shows almost always give more attention to the day-to-day lives of the characters-an aspect we don't see much of in the movies.
"Flowers and a landscape were the only attractions here. And so, as there was no good reason for coming, nobody came."

This might be good... however, if it's only picked up by star wars geeks, there won't be enough of a viewership to keep it going very long. I imagine it will get initial ratings that are very high, due mostly to curiosity, but it will then die off and be isolated to a very select demographc. I wonder if a Star Wars show would have what it takes to flourish in prime time, if that's what it'll be. The reason Star Trek can live in primetime is because it is more gearheaded - more technical and scientific. Star Trek is a sci-fi drama. Star Wars, on the other hand, is a fantasy witch caters more to a younger crowd: not typical primetime.

I any case, I can't wait to watch it, and the fact that Lucas is distanceing himself makes my anticipation even greater.

As long as it's not painfully stupid like the recent star wars games, where suddenly everybody's a Jedi, and everyone in the star wars universe is related somehow.

I want to see brand new characters, and I don't want to hear a single mention of luke skywalker, han, leia, or chewie. Then, only then, I'll consider watching it.

No. God, no. I love Kevin Smith, and him directing this just screams, "NO."

Luke: "Hey, what'd you rent? [...] 'Best of Both Worlds?'"
C3PO: "Yes, sir. It epitomizes the advantages of both Malia and Femalia. The box artwork is quite lovely sir; ladies with apparatuses that put mine to shame."
Luke: "And you rented this?"
C3PO: "Well, sir, I do like to expand my horizons."

I'd be interested to know how they'd handle the intro of the show. Would it be a standard TV show intro, or would they have the Star Wars text crawl every week?

I love Kevin Smith, but sci-fi fantasy is a little different for him. I'm hoping he can do it.

I think, if Enterprise has managed to survive this long, a Star Wars Live Action show could do the same.

Phoenix- The text could change each season. Kind of like each season is a campaign, or something like that.

I hadn't thought of that idea for a text crawl.

Agreed on the point of Enterprise. It just flat out sucks. I've watched 4 episdoes of it. That's all I can take.

I think Kevin Smith could pull it off. He's an Star Wars nerd. A big one. I'm pretty sure that'll help.

What alot of you guys fail to realize though is Kevin Smith wrote comics as well. Daredevil and Green Arrow come to mind, and neither of them were by any means supposed to be funny. Just cause he did the New Jersey Chronicles that are pure comedic genius doesn't mean the guy does everything in comedy. Sure comics and directing sci-fi/fantasy are 2 different things, but they can go from making things that are totally different to something that is hailed as something great.

Take Peter Jackson. Guy directed quite possibly the second most famous trilogy of all time (behind Star Wars) and definately the most popular trilogy in recent times. Then go rent Bad Taste and see what he directed there. And wrote. And acted in. And produced. And...
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Well, the story lines have got to be better than the first 2 movies at least.
2004-09-29, 8:12 PM #23
Something based during the Clone Wars or the Rebellion would probably be best. I'm having trouble seeing something based after Return of the Jedi.

I haven't seen Bad Taste yet, but I hear good things. Have you seen Dead Alive? I'll never forget some of the things I saw in that movie (zombie intestines-turned-tenticles, zombie baby, "I kick *** in the name of the Lord!" Priest, and old, giant, naked, zombie mom). Man, what a movie.

When you look back at his earlier movies, it's kind of amazing that they let him do LotR.

Only if they got the actor who played Wedge in the movies to play Wedge in the series.

George Lucas first mentioned the possibility of doing this television series about a year ago... and at the time, it was going to be based on Rogue Squadron. That idea has since been abandoned, unfortunately... now its going to be about Vader and is going to take place between Episodes III and IV, as far as I know.

And have you seen the actor who played Wedge lately? Also, the consensus in the cantina was that a RS TV Series would only have been awesome if they got Johnny Depp to play Janson.
2004-09-29, 11:33 PM #30
... Johnny Depp as Janson? Worst idea ever.

Man and I was just thinking that a Rogue TV Series would work our great. Anyone know why they scapped it? Perhaps the idea has resurfaced or perhaps they never got rid of it in the first place just put it on the back burner.

Alas the TV show whatever it would go over would work out well I think... Although anything based in the OT would be weird since you'd never be able to see any of the OT characters since they look just a tad bit different than they did for say RotJ. They should do an EU story definetly... Or perhaps something more along the lines of the Knights of the Old Republic storyline? Although probably difficult to cast it would be awesome it they told some of the different side stories every week, you know the ones, like legends of the jedi stuff.
Ya know? Common sense? Not really that common...

Unfortunately it'd take 5-6 six seasons for that to set in, if at all. Look at Star Trek, the later series are bad, but can survive off a crazed fanbase that doesn't like them but will watch them anyway.

Kevin Smith eh? Should be interesting at least.

Ah well, one of these days I'll wake up in that special little parallel-universe where David Lynch did decide to direct ROTJ. That's one head-**** I have yet to experience in this world and sadly, never will...

I want to see something completely new... like 500 years after the Rebellion, or maybe something KotOR-like.

In any case, I can't wait!

Band of Brothers was not directed by one person. Each episode was directed by a different person (although I think one or two people might have directed 2 episodes each).

Um... Kevin Smith? Didn't he direct Clerks, arguably one of the worst films ever made?

Eh... it wouldn't work out well. I mean, it might be a good show, but it wouldn't be anything like Star Wars. The technology would be different, all of the characters would be different.. the only things that could possibly be similar are: races, jedi/lightsabers, planets, possibly the government.

It could have the Star Wars look, but it wouldn't have the feel.

yup. i'm glad someone agrees with me on that one.

ya... i think if they made it kind of like KOTOR where it has NOTHING to do with the good-trilogy or the suck-trilogy that would be the way to go. although, a RS tv show would be totally kick *** and they should get Russel Crowe, or someone similar, to play Corran.
